Inleiding
De GRAFHEUVEL met fraai geornamenteerde grafsteen op de begraafplaats van de Hervormde kerk in Aldtsjerk dateert uit 1857 en behoort aan de familie Van Sminia die ooit de Sminiastate en de Klinze in Aldtsjerk bewoonde.
Omschrijving
Een met gras begroeide grafheuvel waartegen schuin omhoog een hardstenen grafsteen met frijnslag is geplaatst. Op de bovenste helft van de steen zijn in een verdiept veld met rechthoekige lijst afbeeldingen gehouwen: een ridderhelm met drie veren (horend bij het familiewapen van Van Sminia), daaronder een kroon, waaronder de familiewapens van de families Van Sminia en Coehoorn van Scheltinga. In de vier velden van het Van Sminiawapen zijn een zandloper, drie stervormige ornamenten, een halve maan en een bloem afgebeeld; de vier velden van het ovale wapen van de familie Coehoorn van Scheltinga bevatten kruislings identieke motieven: twee velden met twee bloemen en twee velden met afbeeldingen van jachthonden en jachthoorns. Om de wapens heen een decoratieve lijst met lofwerk. Het onderste deel van het familiegraf bevat de tekst: "Jonkheer Arent Johannes Van Sminia, vroeger lid der ridderschap en der staten van Friesland geboren te Leeuwarden den 1 february 1806, gehuwd te Heerenveen den 31 october 1826, overleden te Oudkerk op den Huize De Klinse den 15 october 1857. The GRAVE MOUND with an elaborately ornamented gravestone in the burial ground of the Reformed church in Aldtsjerk dates from 1857 and belongs to the Van Sminia family, who once inhabited the Sminiastate and the Klinze in Aldtsjerk.
Description
A grass-covered grave mound against which a hardstone gravestone with fine dressing is placed sloping upwards. On the upper half of the stone, carved in a recessed field with rectangular border are images: a knight's helmet with three feathers (belonging to the family coat of arms of Van Sminia), below it a crown, beneath which are the family coats of arms of the families Van Sminia and Coehoorn van Scheltinga. In the four fields of the Van Sminia coat of arms are depicted an hourglass, three star-shaped ornaments, a crescent moon and a flower; the four fields of the oval coat of arms of the family Coehoorn van Scheltinga contain cross-wise identical motifs: two fields with two flowers and two fields with depictions of hunting dogs and hunting horns. Around the coats of arms a decorative border with leafwork. The lower part of the family grave contains the text: "Jonkheer Arent Johannes Van Sminia, former member of the knighthood and the states of Friesland born in Leeuwarden on 1 February 1806, married in Heerenveen on 31 October 1826, died in Oudkerk at the House De Klinse on 15 October 1857. Jonkvrouwe Clara Coehoorn van Scheltinga, born in Heerenveen on 19 January 1806, married there on 31 October 1826, died in Oudkerk at the house Sminia State on 13 December 1875."
