Kunstmatige GROT uit de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw vormgegeven in een aan het Neo-Manierisme verwante stijl, gelegen op een kunstmatige heuvel in het achterste deel van de overtuin van Bisdom van Vliet.
Omschrijving
De GROT bestaande uit lavasteen en misbaksels op een framewerk van smeedijzer ligt op een eveneens kunstmatige heuvel, is beplant met een treurbeuk, een beuk en een kastanje en wordt omgeven door een waterpartij. De grot was bereikbaar via twee trappen en ligt verscholen in het wandelbos.
Waardering
De grot is cultuurhistorisch van algemeen belang als hoogtepunt van de parkaanleg behorend bij het hoofdhuis Bisdom van Vliet. De grot is bovendien van uitzonderlijke betekenis voor de Nederlandse tuinarchitectuur als zeldzaam voorbeeld van een dergelijk tuinsieraad met een bijzondere vormgeving en materiaalgebruik. Bovendien bezit deze grot ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de diverse sierelementen in de overtuin.

Description
The GROTTO consisting of lava stone and misshaped bricks on a framework of wrought iron lies on an equally artificial mound, is planted with a weeping beech, a beech and a chestnut tree and is surrounded by a water feature. The grotto was accessible via two stairways and lies concealed in the walking wood.
Valuation
The grotto is of general cultural-historical importance as the high point of the park layout belonging to the main house Bisdom van Vliet. The grotto is moreover of exceptional significance for Dutch garden architecture as a rare example of such a garden ornament with a particular design and material use. Moreover, this grotto possesses ensemble value as part of the various ornamental elements in the far garden.
