Inleiding
POMPGEBOUW uit 1910 is in een Traditioneel Ambachtelijke stijl gebouwd door Visser & Smit uit Papendrecht. Dit constructiebedrijf kreeg onder meer bekendheid door de diverse watertorens die zij hebben ontworpen. Het pompgebouw maakt deel uit van het complex van dienstgebouwen bij de watertoren aan de dijk in Lekkerkerk.
Omschrijving
Pompgebouw is vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond over één bouwlaag opgetrokken in gele baksteen (kruisverband) onder een met rode Tuile du Nordpannen gedekt zadeldak. Een gepleisterde waterlijst sluit het trasraam af. Beide kopse tuitgevels (noord en zuid) zijn voorzien van een uitgemetseld kantelenfries langs de dakrand, uitgemetselde schouders met betonnen schouderstukken en een uitkragende bekroning op de tuit. Onder de geprofileerde gootlijsten van de zijgevels is een bloktand met daaronder een zaagtand uitgemetseld. De segmentboogvormige meerruits vensters van het pand hebben stalen kozijnen onder segmentbogen. In de noordgevel is een houten deur geplaatst onder een segmentboogvormig achtruits bovenlicht. In de linker zijgevel (oost) is een soortgelijke tweede entree geplaatst. De ontluchtingskoker eindigt in een opbouw midden op de daknok met houten roosters onder een zadeldakje.
Waardering
Het pompgebouw is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische als illustratie van een stadium in de ontwikkeling van de drinkwatervoorziening in Nederland in het algemeen en die van de Krimpenerwaard in het bijzonder. Het is een karakteristiek voorbeeld van een utilitair gebouw uit het begin van de 20ste eeuw, vormgegeven in een Ambachtelijk Traditionele bouwstijl met Neorenaissancemotieven. Het pompgebouw is vrij gaaf in hoofdvorm, materiaalgebruik en detaillering. Het pompgebouw heeft ensemblewaarde doordat het deel uitmaakt van een complex bestaande uit functioneel en situationeel aan elkaar gerelateerde panden dat beeldbepalend gelegen is aan de dijk tussen Krimpen aan den Lek en Lekkerkerk.

PUMP HOUSE from 1910 is built in a Traditional Craft style by Visser & Smit from Papendrecht. This construction firm became known amongst other things for the various water towers they designed. The pump house forms part of the complex of service buildings at the water tower along the dike in Lekkerkerk.
Description
Pump house is built from a rectangular plan over one storey in yellow brick (flemish bond) under a gabled roof covered with red Tuile du Nord tiles. A rendered drip moulding closes off the tuff frame. Both end spout gables (north and south) are provided with an embedded crenellated frieze along the roof edge, embedded shoulders with concrete shoulder pieces and a cantilevered coping on the spout. Beneath the profiled gutter lines of the side elevations a dentil course with a sawtooth pattern beneath it is embedded. The segmental-arched multi-light windows of the building have steel frames under segmental arches. In the north elevation a wooden door is placed under a segmental-arched eight-light fanlight. In the left side elevation (east) a similar second entrance is placed. The ventilation flue terminates in a structure in the middle of the roof ridge with wooden grilles under a small gabled roof.
Valuation
The pump house is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value as an illustration of a stage in the development of drinking water provision in the Netherlands in general and that of the Krimpenerwaard in particular. It is a characteristic example of a utilitarian building from the early 20th century, designed in an Artisanal Traditional building style with Neo-Renaissance motifs. The pump house is reasonably intact in main form, use of materials and detailing. The pump house has ensemble value because it forms part of a complex consisting of functionally and situationally related properties that is prominent in appearance, located on the dike between Krimpen aan den Lek and Lekkerkerk.
