The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

The FARMHOUSE situated at the foot of the dike, of the long-house type characteristic of the Krimpenerwaard, was built around the middle of the nineteenth century in a Traditional-Artisanal style. Characteristic is among other things that the front facade is constructed in red brick, while for the other facades clinker brick is used. Through the application of a swept cornice-topped facade, which does not occur much in this region, the farmhouse has acquired a certain allure.

Note that the rear house was remodelled in 1958, whereby the rear facade and left side facade (northeast) were altered; this rear house is of subsidiary importance for the protection.

Description

Farmhouse consists of a partly cellared, single-storey residential part under a thatch-covered gabled roof with chopped ridge finials, which is rounded off at the front. The front facade is constructed in red brick in cross bond and the side facades of clinker brick; the right side facade is provided with a render layer. The front facade is a symmetrically arranged swept cornice-topped facade with at its centre a panel door with cast-iron grille work and a fanlight, flanked by a six-light sash window. On either side of the central axis the attic storey has a four-light sash window. The left side facade has from left to right a six-light sash window and at the location of the work kitchen, two nine-light sash windows and a panel door with fanlight with to its left, a small window. The right side facade (south) has two six-light windows and two cellar windows. To the left of this, in the lowered side facade of the rear house, is a further window flanked by shutters.

The INTERIOR of the front house is intact with regard to its layout and decoration with a central passage and rooms on either side fitted with wood panelling and a simple fireplace; the left front room is connected via a cabinet partition with sliding doors to the kitchen behind.

Valuation

The farmhouse is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural historical value as an example of a fairly intact, monumental farmhouse from the nineteenth century of the long-house type characteristic of the Krimpenerwaard in a Traditional-Artisanal building style, in which a swept cornice-topped facade, which does not occur much in this region, is applied. The property is intact in its principal form and with regard to material use and detailing. It has landscape and ensemble value through the spatial and functional relationship with the associated shed and the surrounding farmyard. It is image-determining as situated at the foot of the dike and as such forms part of the fairly open, rural building structure of Gouderak in particular and the Krimpenerwaard in general.
