HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG. Het ontwerp van het park dateert uit 1859. Het huidige park met zijn landschappelijke aanleg, open grasvelden, boom- en bospartijen, serpentinevijvers, kronkelige paden en zichtassen is vrijwel volgens het bewaard gebleven ontwerpplan van Van Lunteren uitgevoerd. De vroegere grachten zijn daartoe vergraven. Er hebben zich geen grote wijzigingen voorgedaan en het is daarmee een bijzonder gaaf bewaard gebleven 19de-eeuws landschapspark. Het park is ca zeven ha groot en heeft een gebogen vorm met een uitloper naar de zuidzijde. De afrastering bestaat uit eenvoudige spijlenhekwerken (zie hiervoor onderdeel 6). Er waren oorspronkelijk zes toegangen, nu nog vijf. Het park kent enkele duidelijk herkenbare en functionele zichtassen. Vanuit het huis zijn er twee assen naar de Burgemeester Royaardslaan, twee naar de oostzijde en één naar de zuidzijde. De laan die vanaf het poorthuis richting huis Scherpenzeel loopt, dateert al van de 17de eeuw. Het padenstelsel wordt gekenmerkt door de hoofdtoegang vanaf de Burgemeester Royaardslaan, een gebogen pad, met klinkers; enkele halfverharde wandelpaden ten oosten van het huis en kleinere paden tussen de open ruimten. In het ontwerp spelen de vijvers een belangrijke rol, namelijk de waterpartij (voormalige gracht) om het huis heen, de serpentinevijver ten westen van het huis en een langgerekte waterpartij langs de Burgemeester Royaardslaan. In het park zijn nog de resten van een moestuin herkenbaar aan de zuidzijde, evenals de fundamenten van een ijskelder ten oosten van het huis (zie hiervoor onderdeel 7). De slingerende paden buiten de buitenplaats zijn ook naar ontwerp van Van Lunteren, waardoor het landgoed en de buitenplaats fraai in elkaar overvloeien.

Description
HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT. The design of the park dates from 1859. The current park with its landscape design, open grasslands, tree and woodland sections, serpentine ponds, winding paths and sight lines has been executed largely according to the preserved design plan by Van Lunteren. The former moats were excavated for this purpose. No major changes have occurred and it is thereby a remarkably well-preserved 19th-century landscape park. The park is approximately seven hectares in size and has a curved form with an extension towards the south side. The fencing consists of simple paling fences (see component 6 for this). There were originally six entrances, now five remain. The park has several clearly recognisable and functional sight lines. From the house there are two axes towards the Burgemeester Royaardslaan, two towards the east side and one towards the south side. The lane running from the gatehouse towards the house Scherpenzeel dates from the 17th century. The path system is characterised by the main entrance from the Burgemeester Royaardslaan, a curved path with clinker bricks; some semi-surfaced walking paths to the east of the house and smaller paths between the open spaces. In the design the ponds play an important role, namely the water feature (former moat) around the house, the serpentine pond to the west of the house and an elongated water feature along the Burgemeester Royaardslaan. In the park the remains of a kitchen garden are still recognisable on the south side, as are the foundations of an ice house to the east of the house (see component 7 for this). The winding paths outside the country estate are also designed by Van Lunteren, whereby the estate and the country house merge together beautifully.
