Omschrijving
Omschrijving HOOFDGEBOUW (huis Schuttersveld).
-vanwege de ouderdom;
-vanwege de architectonische vormgeving;
-vanwege de gaafheid van het exterieur en het interieur;
-vanwege de functioneel-ruimtelijke relatie met de andere onderdelen van de buitenplaats;

Description
Description MAIN BUILDING (house Schuttersveld).
Cellared block-shaped white-rendered main building in Empire style with a semicircular extension on the rear, on a grey-painted slightly projecting base. The main building is roofed with a flattened hipped roof provided with grey roof tiles and the extension has a flat roof. On the roof ridge angles of the roof stand four chimneys, each side of which is provided with a recessed flat panel, on a square base and provided with caps. Around the building runs a profiled gutter line and a cornice with dentil moulding. On 30 August 1834 the foundation stone for the manufacturer's villa was laid by Adolf de Maere, son of the client. The symmetrically arranged front facade is articulated in five bays, of which the middle one has a projecting effect and contains the entrance section. On either side of the facade is a pilaster. In the left pilaster is the 'foundation stone' consisting of a round plate with text: 'This stone was laid by Adolf de Maere on 30 August 1834'. Before the main entrance lies a massive, upward-swinging ashlar stone staircase, consisting of a step and 10 treads. The lowest tread is decorated on both sides with a flower motif. The staircase ends in a landing. The main entrance is articulated in three parts by two Ionic pilasters and two half columns. Above each capital a flower rosette. The middle part of the main entrance consists of a double door of which both door leaves are constructed from a window panel in which three X-shaped cast-iron decorative elements are placed, in the middle of each X a rosette-like embellishment is worked. Below the windows there are in the door leaves forward-projecting panels. On either side of the door is an identical window with panel. Above the double door and the windows are four fanlights with the same X-shaped decoration. The entrance section as a whole is covered by a cornice with block-shaped guttae decoration, above which four rectangular windows are placed which are articulated by mutually placed pointed-arch-shaped and V-shaped glazing bars. Above the entrance now hangs a simple wrought-iron lamp. The facade planes to the left and right of the entrance section are identical: in the basement two semicircular 2-light windows provided with burglar bars. Above this, on the piano nobile, two 8-light windows with Venetian blinds, above these windows two rectangular blind niches. The left side facade (east) is articulated in five bays. The four outer bays are arranged in the same manner: the basement has a semicircular 2-light window provided with burglar bars, on the piano nobile an 8-light window with Venetian blinds and above this window on attic level a blind niche. The middle bay is narrower and is squeezed between the other bays. In this bay is placed in the basement a rectangular window, in the past a door was located here. On the piano nobile an 8-light window, not provided with Venetian blinds. On the corner of front and side facade hangs a dark green-painted lamp in Art Deco style. The right side facade (west) is articulated in five irregular bays, from left to right the facade is now arranged as follows: two 8-light windows, a recently placed door with oval pane, toilet window consisting of a blind niche with above it a 2-light window, a 4-light window and two original semicircular 2-light windows provided with burglar bars. On the piano nobile there are now three 8-light windows, with between them two blocked-in panes. Above this, on the attic storey, five adjacent rectangular blind niches. The rear facade (south) with on either side a pilaster, has a semicircular projecting extension with on either side two bays. The extension has on the piano nobile three 2-light windows with Venetian blinds above which three blind niches, all following the semicircular form of the extension. In the basement below the left and right windows are semicircular 2-light windows with burglar bars. The entire left bay has in the basement two semicircular 2-light windows and burglar bars above which two 8-light windows with Venetian blinds and somewhat towards the centre of the facade plane placed two 4-light windows, which are partly placed in the underside of the cornice. Before the two right bays is a somewhat upward-swinging flight of steps, consisting of 11 ashlar stone treads ending in a landing. Steps and landing are provided with an ornamental wrought-iron railing. The landing gives access to a double entrance door with 2-light fanlight with Venetian blinds. On the right side of the staircase is in the basement a semicircular 2-light window with burglar bars, above this an 8-light window with Venetian blinds. Above the double door and the window are two, as in the left bays, somewhat towards the centre and partly in the cornice placed 4-light windows.
Interior - During the restoration in 1989-90 some adaptations were made to the interior (notably in the basement) to allow the building to be used as a modern office. These adaptations have not affected the character of the building; but do fall outside the protection due to insufficient age and monumental values. Both piano nobile and basement of villa Schuttersveld are now in use as office space. The piano nobile is constructed from a centrally located reception hall which is surrounded by a number of former living and sleeping rooms. The reception hall with fireplace is provided with the original marble floor and is decorated with fine stuccowork in Empire style. The hall is illuminated by means of a light well which is closed off by frosted glass panes. Directly behind the hall lies in the projecting extension an oval-shaped room with fireplace. To the left of the hall lie three rooms in succession (originally serving the functions of study, large salon and small salon). On the right side of the hall are the former bedrooms and the bathroom (now toilet room). Via a simple stairwell with light well, squeezed between hall and aforementioned rooms, the attic and basement are accessible. The attic (now archive and storage) was during the textile past of the house used as a storage place for piece goods. There are also a few small, former staff rooms. In the basement, next to a number of rooms which in the past were used for storage, provisions etc., is the original kitchen.
Valuation:
The MAIN BUILDING of the historical country estate Schuttersveld is of general importance:
- by reason of age;
- by reason of architectural design;
- by reason of the integrity of the exterior and interior;
- by reason of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate;
- by reason of the central and characteristic location within the 19th-century park in landscape style which arose in roughly the same period as the main building.
