Inleiding
Het oudste bouwdeel van 'Buitenzorg' dateert van rond 1840 en telt vier traveeën. In de rechterzijgevel is de eerste steen aangebracht: 'De eerste steen is gelegd den 26 mei 1840 door jonkvrouwe Cornelie Geraerds Thesingh.' Het pand is twee keer uitgebreid. Rond 1870 werden de twee vleugels en de serre toegevoegd. Omstreeks 1900 kregen beide toegevoegde vleugels een verdieping. Het pand is opgetrokken in neoclassicistische stijl.
Rechts is aan het gebouw een conciergewoning gezet die buiten de bescherming valt.
Omschrijving
Het evenwijdig aan de Amsterdamsestraatweg gelegen BUITENHUIS is op een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken en bestaat uit een hoofdvolume en twee vleugels, allen van twee bouwlagen. De gevels zijn gestuct en witgeschilderd boven een grijze plint. Het middelste bouwdeel bestaat uit vier vensterassen, is iets hoger opgetrokken met een flauw hellend, met leien gedekt zadeldak met de nok evenwijdig aan de weg. De zijgevels van het middelste bouwdeel bevatten een Serliaans venster onder een de op bewerkte korbelen rustende daklijst. De vleugels aan het hoofdgebouw tellen elk één vensteras onder een plat dak. Op de hoeken van het pand staan zinken vazen. De voorgevel wordt geleed door paneel-lisenen en bevat in de eerste bouwlaag van het middendeel vier dubbele deuren en een T-venster in de beide vleugels. De verdieping bevat in totaal zes zesruits schuifvensters. Deuren en vensters zijn voorzien van persiennes en hebben een omlijsting met afgeronde hoeken. Deze worden bekroond door een terra-cotta ornament met acanthus-motief. De soberder uitgevoerde achterzijde telt in het middelste bouwdeel onder zadeldak drie vensterassen, dat in de vleugels twee. De hoofdingang is centraal in de achtergevel gelegen in een iets risalerende partij die hoger is opgetrokken en door het dak steekt. Het wordt gedekt door een plat dak.
Tegen de linkerzijgevel is een houten serre gezet. Deze is voorzien van houten ornamenten en glas-in-lood. De tweede bouwlaag telt twee vensterassen. Tegen de rechterzijgevel is de conciergewoning geplaatst, die buiten de bescherming valt. In de tweede bouwlaag bevindt zich één venster.

The COUNTRY HOUSE, situated parallel to the Amsterdamsestraatweg, is built on a rectangular floor plan and consists of a main volume and two wings, all of two storeys. The middle building component consists of four window axes, is built up slightly higher with a gently pitched, slate-clad gabled roof with the ridge parallel to the road. The side facades of the middle building component contain a Serlio window under a cornice resting on worked out corbels. The wings on the main building each have one window axis under a flat roof. On the corners of the building stand zinc vases. The front facade is articulated by panel-lisenes and contains in the first storey of the middle section four double doors and a T-window in both wings. The upper storey contains in total six six-pane sash windows. Doors and windows are provided with shutters and have a surround with rounded corners. These are crowned by a terra-cotta ornament with acanthus motif. The more soberly executed rear side comprises in the middle building component under gabled roof three window axes, which in the wings is two. The main entrance is centrally located in the rear facade in a slightly projecting section that is built up higher and protrudes through the roof. It is covered by a flat roof.
Against the left side facade is a wooden conservatory. This is provided with wooden ornaments and leaded glass. The second storey comprises two window axes. Against the right side facade is placed the concierge's dwelling, which falls outside the protection. In the second storey is one window.
The layout of the interior is partly original.

The building is of architectural historical value as a recognisable example on account of the building style and the ornamentation. Furthermore, it is of ensemble value in combination with the coach house (Amsterdamsestraatweg 57).
