Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
A RESIDENTIAL HOUSE built around 1900 is a villa constructed in an eclectic style. Various stylistic features have been brought together in the architecture of the building, including the chalet style (pointed gable), neogothic (small stepped tower) and neorenaissance (relieving arches). The villa is located on the Kerkewijk, where a number of factories with manufacturers' residences were situated. In the garden surrounding the house, which faces the Kerkewijk with its front facade, stands a large oak tree at the front and a large red beech in the rear garden.
Description
A detached residential house constructed on an almost rectangular ground plan, consisting of two building sections under a combined roof truss structure with overhang. The left building section has two storeys with pointed gable under a gabled roof with projecting roof tiles, the ridge direction of which is perpendicular to the road. The right building section has one storey under a hipped roof with flat edges. The right roof tile is interrupted by a small tower under a truncated tent roof. The roofs are covered with dull and red cross tiles in a diamond pattern. The facades are constructed above a projecting travertine base course of grey brickwork, with yellow facing brick and brown glazed stone applied decoratively in the ornamental bands, the frieze beneath the drip moulding, as well as in the segmental arches and spandrels. The wooden gutters are supported by profiled brackets, resting on brick plinths with pear bead motif. The wrought iron wall anchors feature scrollwork.
The front facade (east facade) has on the left a pointed gable with a three-sided bay window on the ground floor. The storey above contains a later added smaller three-sided bay window with steel frames. On either side is an oculus. At the top is a single window. The roof projects and has decoratively executed ogival-shaped weather vanes with a barge board, resting on brackets.
The right building section under hipped roof with flat edges contains on the left the entrance in a segmental-arched portico and on the right a sash window. The roof tile is interrupted by a recent roof dormer, which falls outside the protection.
The right side facade is characterised by a small tower, which contains the staircase. The tower is furnished with two narrow coupled round-arched leaded glass windows above which is a small round window. The whole is enclosed by means of a relieving arch. The side facade section to the right of the tower contains two windows. The asymmetrically laid out side facade on the left side contains several sash windows.
Against the rear facade on the left is a later extension placed in keeping with the style. Against the first storey is, likewise in keeping with the style, a recent veranda under a catslide roof placed. The right building section is a pointed gable with decoratively executed weather vanes, which has on the first storey French doors with fanlights and on the second storey and in the gable above it a simplified window. The recessed facade on the left contains two narrow round-arched windows.
In the interior, the ornamented stucco ceiling in the sitting room is of importance.
Valuation
The residential house is of general importance due to its cultural and architectural historical value as a fairly intact example of a villa from around 1900 in a richly detailed eclectic building style, executed with elements from the chalet style, neogothic and neorenaissance. The building also has cultural historical and urban planning value through its location along a road where several villas stand, predominantly manufacturers' residences, which belonged to the factories that stood here.
