Inleiding
Een in oorsprong waarschijnlijk uit de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw stammend WINKEL-WONING, welke in 1906 ingrijpend verbouwd in Art Nouveaustijl. De eerste steenlegging vond plaats door de apotheker D.H. Recter op 16 mei 1906. Er werd een nieuwe voorgevel gebouwd en het winkelgedeelte werd ingericht als apotheek. Het pand maakt onderdeel uit van de noordelijke, vrijwel gesloten gevelwand van de Markt en ligt tegenover de kerk en voormalige domineeswoning.
N.B. De tegen de achtergevel geplaatste uitbouw valt buiten de bescherming van rijkswege.
Omschrijving
De aan de Markt gelegen winkel met bovenwoning telt twee bouwlagen op een smalle, rechthoekige plattegrond. Het pand wordt aan de voorzijde afgedekt door een dakschild met gesmoorde kruispannen.
De voorgevel (zuidgevel) is een halsgevel met op de begane grond een symmetrisch ingedeelte winkelpui, geplaatst op de hoeken iets doorgetrokken hardstenen pilasters met florale motieven. Rechts bestaat de pui uit een hardstenen Art Nouveau plint met daarboven een grenen kozijn met een grote etalageruit en bovenlichten. Links bevindt zich een entreeportiek, bestaande uit een grenen deur met Art Nouveau panelen en hang- en sluitwerk. De vloer van de portiek is voorzien van terazzowerk. De linker wand is bekleed met twee soorten tegels. De rechter wand bestaat uit een grenen kozijn met een etalageruit, geplaatst op een hardstenen plint. Boven de eerste bouwlaag is de gevel opgetrokken in witte verblendsteen met speklagen van gele gedecoreerde tegels. In het midden bevindt zich een brede rechthoekige erker met twee T-schuiframen en bovenlichten voorzien van groen kathedraalglas. Het houtwerk van de erker, waaronder de panelen aan de onderzijde en de consoles zijn decoratief uitgevoerd met snijwerk met Art Nouveau-motieven. De erker is afgedekt met een geprofileerde overstekende goot op klossen. Een vergelijkbare goot bevindt zich eveneens aan weerszijden van de topgevel. De hals van de geveltop bevat een segmentbogig kozijn, bestaande uit een deur en twee vensters met roedenverdeelde bovenlichten. De gevelbeëindiging bestaat uit verticale houten delen met windveren en een makelaar.

Introduction
A SHOP WITH DWELLING, which originally probably dates from the second half of the 19th century, substantially rebuilt in 1906 in Art Nouveau style. The foundation stone was laid by the pharmacist D.H. Recter on 16 May 1906. A new front facade was constructed and the shop section was fitted out as a pharmacy. The building is part of the northern, virtually continuous facade wall of the Markt and stands opposite the church and former parsonage.
N.B. The extension placed against the rear facade falls outside the protection under national heritage status.
Description
The shop with dwelling located on the Markt comprises two storeys on a narrow, rectangular ground plan. The building is covered at the front by a roof tile with dull cross tiles.
The front facade (south facade) is a neck gable with a symmetrically arranged shop front on the ground floor, with hardstone pilasters with floral motifs slightly extended at the corners. On the right, the front consists of a hardstone Art Nouveau plinth with above it a pine frame with a large display window and fanlights. On the left is an entrance portico, consisting of a pine door with Art Nouveau panels and hinges and closing hardware. The floor of the portico is furnished with terrazzo work. The left wall is clad with two types of tiles. The right wall consists of a pine frame with a display window, placed on a hardstone plinth. Above the first storey, the facade is constructed in white facing brick with courses of yellow decorated tiles. In the centre is a broad rectangular bay window with two T-sash windows and fanlights featuring green cathedral glass. The woodwork of the bay window, including the panels at the underside and the consoles, are decoratively executed with carving featuring Art Nouveau motifs. The bay window is covered with a profiled overhanging gutter on corbels. A similar gutter is also found on either side of the gable top. The neck of the gable top contains a segmental-arched frame, consisting of a door and two windows with glazing bar-divided fanlights. The gable termination consists of vertical wooden parts with weather vanes and a barge board.
In the interior, the staircase, a black marble fireplace and the terrazzo floor are of importance. This floor with coloured floral corner decorations covers the former shop section and the corridor.
Valuation
The building is of general importance due to its cultural and architectural historical value as an intact and characteristic example of a residential shop building in Art Nouveau style, in particular the detailing of the front facade and the former shop interior. The building also has ensemble value through its visually defining location on the Markt.
