Omschrijving
- vanwege de bij de buitenplaats behorende parkaanleg in landschapsstijl, waarin de oprijlaan als karakteristiek 18de-eeuws formeel element gehandhaafd is;
- vanwege de gaaf bewaarde elementen in landschapsstijl, zoals de niervormige vijverpartij met eiland en de verdiepte weide voor het huis, die door zijn aha-effect een bijzonder en uniek onderdeel vormt;

Description
HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Moersbergen. The entrance drive and principal axis of the layout is formed by an approximately 800 metre long avenue planted with oaks, which is oriented several degrees off the axis of the house. At the end of the nineteenth century the avenue was diverted with a westward bend, but the perspective effect of the avenue as a sight line to the house was maintained through the creation of a sunken meadow in front of the house. This meadow with ha-ha effect creates a surprising landscape element. From the eighteenth-century layout (see map 1706) there remain, besides the entrance drive, also the avenue on the west side (Leeuwenburgerlaan) and the north ditch. The layout in landscape style can be distinguished in two phases. In the period between 1824 and 1832 the ditch system was expanded into a pond and the park wood with winding paths to the south of the house was laid out (see cadastral map 1829), and the forecourt, after the demolition of the service dwellings, was transformed into an open space (see lithograph P.J. Lutgers 1869). In the period between 1900 and 1925 the star wood, which in 1869 was still intact, was transformed into a landscape park and in the park wood to the south of the house a vista towards the Gooyerdijk was created. To the west of the entrance drive lies a coulisse landscape with open meadows alternating with wooded areas. The large meadow obliquely in front of the house was originally intersected by a straight avenue, in the continuation of the east-west avenue of the star wood. This avenue is terminated on the west side by a hill (originally an ice house/viewpoint). Directly at the westward bend lie the carriage house and a service dwelling, and the kitchen garden has also been situated here since the nineteenth century. To the east of the entrance drive lies the park wood, which in the second half of the eighteenth century was laid out as a star wood and around 1900 was furnished with winding avenues (of which the north-east avenue now remains). The core of the layout in landscape style, flanked by meadows, is situated around the house with a single winding path, clumps of trees and solitary specimens. Around 1824 the double ditch was expanded into a kidney-shaped pond with a worm-shaped projection on the west side and an oval island on the east side. From the house runs an eastward sight line over the water feature towards the meadows. At the location of the present orchard this axis was contained in a sight avenue (see cadastral map 1829), which no longer exists. The north ditch has been retained as a formal element and functions somewhat as a 'grand canal'. Behind the castle, around 1925, a sight line towards the Gooyerdijk was preserved, enclosed by an irregular wooded edge that widens and narrows. The Gooyerdijk forms from time immemorial the south boundary of the country estate.
Valuation
HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Moersbergen of general importance:
- on account of the park layout in landscape style belonging to the country estate, in which the entrance drive as a characteristic 18th-century formal element has been maintained;
- on account of the well-preserved elements in landscape style, such as the kidney-shaped pond with island and the sunken meadow in front of the house, which through its ha-ha effect forms a special and unique component;
- on account of the functional-spatial coherence with the different components of the country estate.
