Omschrijving
HOOFDGEBOUW (Moersbergen). Berden in 'oude' staat is terug gerestaureerd.

Description
MAIN BUILDING (Moersbergen). The originally fifteenth-century main building has been extended several times over the centuries and was rebuilt in neogothic style in 1824 and 1866. However, no traces of these alterations remain as the building was restored to its 'original' state in 1927 by architect J.W.H. Berden. In doing so the floor plan, the facades and the roofs were altered. Only the L-shaped foundation on which the castle is built has undergone little change in its main lines. The castle comprises two almost square building blocks namely a front block (northeast) of 8.70 by 8.50 metres and a rear block (south) of 16.20 by 16.50 metres, which together with the crenellated walls on the northwest and west sides with a sixteenth-century dovecote on the corner enclose a square-shaped inner courtyard. The brick building block consists of a basement, two storeys and a roof storey under an L-shaped hipped roof with slates in Maas covering. The facades are decorated with ornamental wall anchors and feature a filling of latticed basement lights, cross windows and cloister windows fitted with shutters. The many roof dormers, chimneys, wrought-iron ornaments and four towers give the castle a picturesque appearance. The towers are crowned by conical spires covered with slate and tapered. The front elevation of the house is composed of the front facade of the front block, the crenellated connecting wall with entrance gateway and the dovecote. The front facade is three window axes wide with cross windows and two latticed basement lights. Adjoining is the wall from 1824, altered again with crenellations in 1866, with on the left an arched entrance gateway, which is emphasised by a stepped gable. The brick dovecote erected on a square foundation contains six flight holes in the upper storey arranged in pyramid form on all sides. The entrance is situated in the inner corner of the L-shape, in an extension at that location. The inner facades feature regular window filling. The long east facade is characterised by the two towers and the large terrace to the left of it. In the towers and the right facade section are cloister windows and window lights incorporated, in the left facade section cross windows. The large rectangular terrace is provided with a masonry balustrade. The four-bay wide south facade contains cross windows, basement lights and in the centre a cloister window is placed on the storey. The west facade also shows different use of windows. This facade is dominated by a large stair tower and a five-sided projection. A low crenellated wall connects the west facade with the dovecote. In the INTERIOR there are some nineteenth-century stucco ceilings and mantels.
