Inleiding
Samen met de Bornse smid Meyling richtte de textielfabrikant C.T. Stork in 1859 de firma Stork, Meyling & Co. op, de eerste gespecialiseerde reparatiewerkplaats voor stoommachines in Twente. In 1865 trad Meyling uit de leiding van de fabriek. De zaken werden voortgezet onder de naam Gebr. Stork & Co. in het spoorwegknooppunt Hengelo, vlakbij het station van Hengelo en de Nederlandsche Katoenspinnerij. Op het terrein van de machinefabriek van de Fa. Stork staat in de noord-westhoek een WATERTOREN die in opdracht van de Fa. Stork in 1917 gebouwd werd.
Omschrijving
De WATERTOREN op vierkante grondslag is opgebouwd uit een witgepleisterd betonskelet met vullingen van machinale baksteen en vensters met stalen kozijnen.
Het gebouw wordt bekroond door een betonnen bovenbouw met geprofileerde hoeklisenen. Aan elk der zijden een gebogen erker steunend op consoles en gedekt met een rondgaande geprofileerde kroonlijst met daarop een afgeknot schilddak.
Waardering
Watertoren van cultuur-, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig belang:
- als vroeg voorbeeld van het construeren en bouwen in gewapend beton

Introduction
Together with the Borns blacksmith Meyling, textile manufacturer C.T. Stork founded the firm Stork, Meyling & Co. in 1859, the first specialized repair workshop for steam engines in Twente. In 1865 Meyling withdrew from the management of the factory. Business continued under the name Gebr. Stork stands in the north-west corner a WATER TOWER which was built on behalf of Fa. Stork in 1917.
Description
The WATER TOWER on a square ground plan is constructed from a white rendered concrete skeleton with infill of machine-made brick and windows with steel frames.
The building is crowned by a concrete upper structure with profiled corner pilasters. On each of the sides a curved oriel supported on consoles and covered with a running profiled cornice with a truncated hipped roof on top.
