MAIN BUILDING (Huis te Jaarsveld). On the forecourt somewhat to the side of the axis of the castle island lies the block-shaped main building consisting of a single-storey building from 1759-1760, a garden house from 1839 and a wing of two storeys from 1867. The building, erected on a rectangular ground plan of brick, has a dark plinth and a surrounding hipped roof tiled with Old Dutch tiles with brick corner chimney stacks (front), while the garden house, erected on a square ground plan and forming part of the rectangular building mass, is covered by a curved tent roof tiled with slate and crowned by a pinnacle. The regularly articulated front and rear facades have acquired an asymmetrical appearance through the extension from 1867 (north-east). The arrangement of the cornice-topped facade on the front consists of a moulded entrance door with a fanlight above with diamond-shaped glazing bars surrounding a round, spherical glass (lamp). The entrance section is framed in wooden surround and is flanked by two multi-pane sash windows with shutters. To the left of this a double glazed garden door with wooden upper section in which the coat of arms of Jaarsveld is displayed (now executed in plastic). The rear facade has an almost identical arrangement of an entrance door with fanlight flanked by two multi-pane sash windows with shutters and two roof dormers. To the right of this the garden house with framed garden door and a six-pane first-floor window with venetian blinds. The 19th-century north-east facade consists of two storeys with rosette-shaped wall anchors and a regular arrangement formed by three bays with six-pane sash windows fitted with venetian blinds and two doors. To the left of this the garden house with two irregularly placed multi-pane windows fitted with venetian blinds and a window light with shutter. Against the south-west facade a brick buttress, a large multi-pane window with shutters and three roof dormers. In the INTERIOR, the well-preserved 18th-century arrangement is of particular note, formed by a narrow corridor as the original centre axis with two rooms to the right, furnished with wooden wall panelling, wooden ceilings (beam ceiling in front room, in back room and corridor a wooden ceiling with moulding) and in the front room a marble, richly decorated fireplace with chimney breast. During the extension in 1867 the staircase in the back room was relocated.
