Omschrijving
Het twee verdiepingen hoge, rechthoekige FILTERGEBOUW, hoofdonderdeel van het complex van de voormalige "Bloemendaalsche Waterleiding", vormt in feite de ombouw van een voor- en nafilter uit de begintijd van de duinwaterleiding in Duin en Daal (1901 of kort daarna) en wordt gedragen door een gewapend betonskelet. De buitenconstructie telt vier (zijgevels) en acht (voor- en achtergevel) kolommen. De bovenverdieping heeft een beduidend kleiner oppervlak met een buitenconstructie van vijf kolommen aan de lange gevels en drie kolommen aan de korte gevels.
De bovenverdieping heeft een licht hellend zadeldak. Het dak van de begane grondverdieping loopt naar vier zijden langzaam af. De daken zijn geconstrueerd van ongeveer 7 centimeter dik gewapend beton. De buitenconstructie is in het zicht gelaten. Voor de invulling is gebruik gemaakt van holle betonstenen. Op enkele plaatsen zijn lichtopeningen dicht onder de dakrand aangebracht.
De voorgevel telt twee toegangen met dubbele deuren. In de rechter zijgevel is een toegang met dubbele deur opgenomen. Bij de renovatie van het filtergebouw in 1956 is onder meer een grondkerende muur aan de voet van het gebouw aangebracht en zijn de toegangen ontsloten door nieuwe betonnen trappen.
Het uit negen bronnen, 40 tot 120 meter opgevoerde drinkwater werd via een pompstation aan de Lage Duin en Daalseweg door twee persleidingen naar de 38 meter hoger gelegen voorfilters in de filtergebouwen gepompt.
Het ongeveer 4,50 bij 5,25 meter metende voorfilter van gewapend beton was gevuld met verschillende maten grint voor het ontijzeren van het water.
Via een goot stroomde het water in het even grote nafilter, gevuld met grint en een ongeveer 1,00 meter dikke laag duinzand. Het gezuiverde water stroomde vervolgens in een van de twee reinwaterkelders c.a. met een gezamenlijke inhoud in 1913 van 747 m3.
Waardering
Het voormalige filtergebouw is van algemeen belang als historisch-functioneel hoofdonderdeel van het complex van de voormalige "Bloemendaalsche Waterleiding" en vanwege de architectuurhistorische en cultuurhistorische waarden als een qua hoofdvorm, detaillering en materiaalgebruik gaaf nutsgebouw uit de eerste deccenia van de 20ste eeuw dat in Nederland kan gelden als een vroeg voorbeeld van de toepassing van gewapend betonskeletbouw, waarbij de constructie in het zicht is gelaten, in samenhang met holle betonsteen. Tevens is het gebouw een qua ouderdom zeldzaam geworden bouwtype voor de collectieve drinkwatervoorziening, gebouwd door de N.V. Industrieële Maatschappij F.J. Stulemeyer & Co. (één van de eerste bouwfirma's in Nederland, gespecialiseerd in het construeren van werken in gewapend beton). Description
The two-storey, rectangular FILTER BUILDING, principal component of the complex of the former "Bloemendaalsche Waterleiding", is in fact the enclosure of a pre- and post-filter from the early days of the dune water line in Duin en Daal (1901 or shortly thereafter) and is supported by a reinforced concrete skeleton. The external construction has four (side elevations) and eight (front and rear elevations) columns. The upper storey has a considerably smaller area with an external construction of five columns on the long elevations and three columns on the short elevations.
The upper storey has a slightly inclined gabled roof. The roof of the ground storey slopes gradually towards all four sides. The roofs are constructed of approximately 7 centimetres thick reinforced concrete. The external construction is left exposed. For the infill hollow concrete blocks have been used. Light openings have been provided on several occasions just below the roof edge.
The front elevation has two entrances with double doors. In the right side elevation an entrance with double door is included. During the renovation of the filter building in 1956 a retaining wall was constructed among other things at the foot of the building and the entrances were connected by new concrete stairs.
Water from nine springs, raised 40 to 120 metres, was pumped via a pump station at the Lage Duin en Daalseweg through two delivery pipes to the 38 metres higher situated pre-filters in the filter buildings.
The pre-filter, measuring approximately 4.50 by 5.25 metres, constructed from reinforced concrete was filled with different sizes of gravel for the removal of iron from the water.

The former filter building is of general importance as a historical-functional principal component of the complex of the former "Bloemendaalsche Waterleiding" and by reason of architectural-historical and cultural-historical values as a well-preserved utility building of the first decades of the 20th century in terms of its main form, detailing and material use which can be regarded in the Netherlands as an early example of the application of reinforced concrete skeleton construction, whereby the structure is left exposed, in conjunction with hollow concrete block. Furthermore the building is a building type that has become rare by reason of its age for collective drinking water provision, built by N.V. Industrieële Maatschappij F.J. Stulemeyer & Co. (one of the first construction firms in the Netherlands, specialising in the construction of works in reinforced concrete). Moreover the object is of socio-historical significance as an element from the history of drinking water provision in the Netherlands.
