Onderdeel 13
Inleiding

Description
Component 13
Introduction
DOUBLE SERVICE COTTAGE from 1911 designed by A. Salm, component of the historic country estate Koningshof. The service cottage is situated at some distance to the east of the main building and is not visible from this main building. The former service cottage has a spacious front courtyard and stands on the west side of the Duinlustweg. A conservatory was added to the rear of the southern cottage (46). To reach this conservatory a window in the rear facade was enlarged to a door.
NB the mentioned alterations at no. 46 fall outside the protection.
Description
Double service cottage built on a rectangular floor plan consisting of ground floor and attic storey under a gabled roof with black Dutch pantiles. The symmetrically arranged object stands with its long side parallel to the Duinlustweg. The masonry is erected on a slightly projecting plinth from orange-red brick. The transition from plinth to masonry is partly carried out in hardstone. The windows and doors are all of wood. The windows on the ground floor have undivided panes with shutters below and in the upper panes a small square glazing bars. The windows of the attic storey are entirely provided with such glazing bars. The front (E) has a width of four window bays. The two middle bays consist of rectangular bay windows with six-light windows. The lower panes are sash. The bay windows are finished with a broad wooden moulding. The outer window bays each consist of a single sash window. Centrally in the overlying roof panel is a double wooden roof dormer to the width of two rows of three coupled windows. Three chimneys project from this roof panel: in the middle a higher example placed in the roof panel without decoration and on either side thereof lower placed examples with decorative brickwork. Both gable ends (N and S) are pointed gables that are finished by a slightly projecting edge. Both gables are identical and each contain in the west corner of the ground floor the entrance to the dwelling placed under a hood. To the east thereof the ground floor has a single sash window. The gable top has two narrow vertical windows for lighting the attic storey. The rear (W) has mostly blind masonry with near the centre two large window frames in which in the northern cottage the original casement windows with flanking shutters are still present. Near the outer corners each cottage has a smaller, high-placed window frame with six-light window. Centrally in the roof is a roof dormer consisting of two rows of three windows.
Valuation
The double service cottage is of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical point of view as a historic-functional component of the historic country estate Koningshof, which in architecture forms a unity with the other buildings by architect A. Salm on this country estate.
