Inleiding
ERFSCHEIDING, behorende tot het complex van voormalig weeshuis en portierswoning en erfscheiding. Het voormalige protestantse weeshuis is aan de Grote Kerkstraat gesitueerd en opgenomen in het register van rijksmonumenten onder monumentnummer: 14318. De voormalige portierswoning is gelegen aan het Jan Nieuwenhuizenplein en van het voormalige weeshuis gescheiden. Het ijzeren hek is aan de noordwestzijde van het terrein geplaatst langs de Matthijs Tinxgracht.
Omschrijving
IJzeren erfscheiding, bestaande uit een spijlenhek, waarvan de spijlen worden afgesloten door kruisvormen, tussen pijlers die worden afgesloten door pijnappels. De pijlers zijn gevat in natuursteen op bakstenen voet en worden gesteund door ijzeren stangen in natuurstenen voet.

De erfscheiding is van algemeen belang wegens cultuurhistorische waarde en ensemblewaarde als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex van weeshuis en portierswoning met erfscheiding uit het einde van de 19de eeuw, gelegen in het beschermde stadsgezicht van Edam.

BOUNDARY WALL, belonging to the complex of former orphanage and porter's lodge and boundary wall. The former Protestant orphanage is situated at Grote Kerkstraat and entered in the national monuments register under monument number: 14318. The former porter's lodge is located at Jan Nieuwenhuizenplein and separated from the former orphanage. The iron fence is placed on the north-west side of the site along the Matthijs Tinxgracht.
Description
Iron boundary fence, consisting of a railing, with the uprights closed by cross forms, between piers which are finished with finials. The piers are set in natural stone on brick base and are supported by iron rods in natural stone base.
Valuation
The boundary wall is of general importance due to cultural-historical value and ensemble value as a historical-functional part of the complex of orphanage and porter's lodge with boundary wall from the end of the 19th century, located in the protected townscape of Edam.
