Inleiding
Brugwachterswoning gebouwd ca 1880 in directe samenhang met de ontwikkeling van de vervening Eexterveenschekanaal in het algemeen en de tolheffing voor de naastliggende draaibrug in het bijzonder.
Beeldbepalend gelegen als een van de kenmerkende elementen van het Eexterveenschekanaal.
In de jaren '50 is de indeling van de woning gewijzigd en zijn dakkapellen geplaatst. De bescherming betreft het exterieur, de naoorlogse wijzigingen zijn voor bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaande woning opgetrokken in baksteen vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond over één bouwlaag, onder een met pannen gedekt afgewolfd zadeldakVoorgevel met een open rechter hoek, gedragen door een lichtgebogen ijzeren I- profiel, steunend op een gietijzerenkolom. Het midden en het linkerdeel van de voorgevel is geleed d.m.v. vier lisenen, die van het middendeel zijn hoger opgaand en verbonden door een rondboog (korf-?).
Onder de boog een ovaal venster met ruitvormige roeden gevat in een rollaag. Tussen de lisenen twee rechtgesloten schuifvensters onder een rondboog en een blindnis, voor het toltariefbord. De zuidoostgevel is enigszins gewijzigd, met in het dakschild twee dakkapellen.

Bridge keeper's house built c. 1880 in direct connection with the development of the peat extraction Eexterveenschekanaal in general and the toll collection for the adjacent swivel bridge in particular.
Visually distinctive as one of the characteristic elements of the Eexterveenschekanaal.
In the 1950s the layout of the house was altered and roof dormers were added. The protection concerns the exterior, the post-war alterations are of subordinate importance for protection.
Description
Detached house built in brick on a rectangular footprint over one storey, under a cambered saddle roof covered with tiles. Front facade with an open right angle, supported by a slightly curved iron I-profile, resting on a cast iron column. The middle and left part of the front facade is articulated by means of four pilaster strips, those of the middle section rising higher and connected by a round arch (basket?).
Under the arch an oval window with diamond-shaped panes set in a roll moulding. Between the pilaster strips two straight-sided sash windows under a round arch and a blind niche for the toll rate board. The south-east facade is somewhat altered, with two roof dormers in the roof slope.
