Inleiding
Brugwachterswoning gebouwd ca 1880 in directe samenhang met de ontwikkeling van de vervening Eexterveenschekanaal in het algemeen en de tolheffing voor de naastliggende draaibrug in het bijzonder.
Beeldbepalend gelegen als een van de kenmerkende elementen van het Eexterveenschekanaal.
Van recente datum zijn de dakkapel en de keukenaanbouw. De bescherming betreft het oorspronkelijke exterieur, de latere wijzigingen zijn voor bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand huis opgetrokken vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond over één bouwlaag, onder een met pannen gedekt zadel-/schilddak. Gewijzigde windveren en gootlijsten.
Voorgevel met open rechterhoek, gesteund door een gietijzeren kolom, met een lichte porring. Teruggelegen de opgeklampte voordeur en een rechtgesloten schuifvenster. Verder twee rechtgesloten schuifvensters onder segmentbogen met daartussen een blinde nis met een nagenoeg dezelfde dagmaat, wsl. voor het toltariefbord. In de geveltop een dubbel draairaam met oren van siermetselwerk.
De zijmuren zijn geleed door pilasters. Het dakschild van de zuidoost gevel heeft een grote dakkapel die niet aansluit op de architectuur van het overige. In de spaarvelden rechtgesloten schuifvenstens. De achtergevel is eveneens door pilasters geleed, hier een grote uitbouw die niet aansluit op de architectuur van het hoofdgebouw.

Bridge keeper's house built c. 1880 in direct connection with the development of the peat extraction Eexterveenschekanaal in general and the toll collection for the adjacent swivel bridge in particular.
Visually distinctive as one of the characteristic elements of the Eexterveenschekanaal.
Of recent date are the roof dormer and kitchen extension. The protection concerns the original exterior, the later alterations are of subordinate importance for protection.
Description
Detached house built on a rectangular footprint over one storey, under a saddle/hipped roof covered with tiles. Altered roof edges and gutter lines.
Front facade with open right rectangle, supported by a cast iron column, with slight pedimentation. Set back the clamped front door and a straight-sided sash window. Furthermore two straight-sided sash windows under segmental arches with between them a blind niche with approximately the same width, probably for the toll rate board. In the gable a double casement window with ornamental masonry ears.
The side walls are articulated by pilasters. The roof slope of the south-east facade has a large roof dormer that does not harmonise with the architecture of the remainder. In the spandrels straight-sided sash windows. The rear facade is likewise articulated by pilasters, here a large extension that does not harmonise with the architecture of the main building.
