Inleiding
Verpleeghuis De Berkenhof is rond 1930 in expressionistische trant gebouwd als villa voor een juwelier. Opvallend is de windvaan, voorstellende een smid aan het werk. De hoofdvorm van het gebouw is afgeleid van een boerderij. Het pand is verbouwd tot verpleeghuis, waartoe deel van het interieur dat achter de hal ligt en de totale achterzijde van het pand ingrijpend zijn gewijzigd. De bescherming betreft dan ook de gevels zichtbaar vanaf de straatzijde en de vertrekken eveneens aan de straatzijde gelegen.
De naast gelegen woning, Boslaan 2, werd gebruikt door de chauffeur.
Omschrijving
Verpleeghuis opgetrokken in baksteen vanaf een samengestelde plattegrond over één bouwlaag onder een samengestelde kap gedekt met riet.
L-vormig voorhuis met in de oksel de entree met gekoppelde vensters onder het dakoverstek. In de kopgevel aan de straatzijde drie gekoppelde rechtgesloten vensters onder rondbogen met siermetselwerk in de boogtrommel, de buitenste vensters, met glas-in-lood, behangen met luiken. Op de verdieping drie keperboogvensters met geaccentueerde omlijsting. In de nok eveneens een keperboogvenster. In de linkerzijgevel onder het dakschild een venster behangen met luik. In het hoofdvolume het halfronde dakraam. In de dakschilden halfronde dakkapellen met dito vensters.
In de rechterzijgevel een venster met luik en een erker. Rechts van de erker een deur met gekoppelde vensters, die uit op een bordes. De daklijst doorbrekend twee drielicht vensters.
InterieurDe hal en de vertrekken aan de straatzijde zijn in oorspronkelijke staat. Deze hebben (tegel)lambriseringen en glas-in-lood vensters. In het trappenhuis, met glas- in-lood venster is de roos aangebracht, waarvan de windrichting is af te lezen.

Introduction
Nursing home De Berkenhof was built around 1930 in Expressionist style as a villa for a jeweller. Striking is the weathervane, depicting a blacksmith at work. Description
Nursing home constructed in brick from a composite ground plan over one storey under a composite roof truss structure covered with thatch.
L-shaped front section with the entrance in the angle, with coupled windows under the roof overhang. In the gable on the street side three coupled right-angled windows under semicircular arches with ornamental brickwork in the arch profile, the outer windows, with leaded glass, hung with shutters. On the upper level three basket-arch windows with accentuated framing. In the ridge also a basket-arch window. In the left side gable under the hipped roof a window hung with shutter. In the main volume the semicircular roof window. In the hipped roofs semicircular roof dormer windows with likewise windows.
In the right side gavel a window with shutter and a bay window. To the right of the bay window a door with coupled windows, opening onto a platform. The cornice-line broken through by two three-light windows.
Interior
The hall and the rooms on the street side are in original condition. These have (tile) dado panelling and leaded glass windows. In the stairwell, with leaded glass window, the compass rose is mounted, by which the wind direction can be read.
