Inleiding
HOTEL-CAFE-RESTAURANT 't Gemeentehuis, gebouwd in het derde kwart van de 19de eeuw in een stijl met eclectische en ambachtelijk-traditionele elementen. Het pand is gelegen in het centrum van het dorp Bedum op het kruispunt van de belangrijkste straat van het dorp, de Grotestraat, met het Boterdiep, die hier een knik in noordelijke richting maakt. Vroeger had het pand waarschijnlijk een doorrit van de Grotestraat naar het achterste deel van de westgevel, waar een zijstraatje langs het Boterdiep loopt. Het exterieur en interieur van het pand zijn in de loop der tijd regelmatig verbouwd. Recentelijk hebben verbouwingen plaats gevonden in 1975, 1976, 1979 en 1986. De laatste twee betroffen de achtergevel en het achterste deel van de westgevel, op de plek waar zich vermoedelijk vroeger het achterste deel van de doorrit bevond. Voor bescherming komen de hoofdvorm, de voorgevel langs de Grotestraat en de westgevel langs het Boterdiep in aanmerking; de overige gevels en het interieur vallen buiten de bescherming van rijkswege.
Omschrijving
Twee bouwlagen hoog horecapand, opgemetseld van rode baksteen en gedekt door een afgeplat schilddak van geglazuurde leipannen; op de nok twee gemetselde schoorstenen. De gevels worden beëindigd door een kroonlijst. De vensters zijn T-vensters, beëindigd door een korfboog.
De voorgevel, de zuidgevel, kraagt ter hoogte van de eerste verdieping ongeveer 1.40 meter uit door middel van troggewelven, nu door glasvezelplaten afgedekt, die worden ondersteund door zes gietijzeren zuilen op een piedestal. Op de begane grond zes rechthoekige verticale vensters en een niet-originele voordeur uit de jaren dertig met bovenlicht en omlijsting; op de oostelijke hoek een dubbele opgeklampte schuurdeur met twee ronde roosvensters, vermoedelijk vroeger het voorste deel van de doorrit. De eerste verdieping heeft zes T-vensters. De hoek van de zuid- en westgevel is op de eerste verdieping gesnoten; het gesnoten gedeelte heeft een houten balkon met balustrade en een dubbele deur met vensters.
De westgevel heeft op de begane grond zeven T-vensters en een dubbele deur met vensters beëindigd door een korfboog; op de eerste verdieping acht T-vensters. HOTEL-CAFÉ-RESTAURANT 't Gemeentehuis, built in the third quarter of the 19th century in a style with eclectic and craft-traditional elements. Description
Two-storey hospitality building, constructed of red brick and covered by a hipped roof of glazed slate tiles; on the ridge two brick chimneys. The facades are terminated by a cornice. The windows are T-windows, terminated by a segmental arch.
The front facade, the south facade, projects at the level of the first floor approximately 1.40 metres by means of barrel vaults, now covered by fibreglass sheets, which are supported by six cast-iron columns on a pedestal. On the ground floor six rectangular vertical windows and a non-original front door from the 1930s with fanlight and surround; on the eastern corner a double hinged barn door with two round ventilation windows, probably formerly the front part of the passageway. The first floor has six T-windows. The corner of the south and west facade is chamfered on the first floor; the chamfered section has a wooden balcony with balustrade and a double door with windows.
The west facade has on the ground floor seven T-windows and a double door with windows terminated by a segmental arch; on the first floor eight T-windows. The rear part of the west facade steps back on the ground floor approximately three metres; in the recessed facade section, which has been altered, the rear part of the passageway probably stood formerly.
