HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Oostergeest. Partly in structure and partly in detail well-preserved garden layout in early landscape style from the early 19th century located within the 17th and 18th-century layout of watercourses and avenues. Determining the character of the garden layout in landscape style is the excavated water feature that winds around the house and around which the park, vegetable garden and open meadows are grouped. The house forms a dominant factor in the layout because of its visually defining location. The large open meadow in front of the house functions as a broad sight line, replacing the 18th-century sight line (old drive). In front of the house the axis narrows through the linden trees standing partly in square formation (planted around 1800 as replacement of older specimens). South of the meadow runs the straight drive lined with oak and hawthorn hedges to the house. West of the house is the 'gazebo on dune' located, which offers views of the surrounding meadow (formerly also of the dunes, now disrupted by motorway/railway). Between the coach house and the churchyard wall an 18th-century red brick partition wall with cemented brick roll course. The churchyard wall with gate is already protected as part of the church ruins. The gate was specially installed for the family in the 19th century. The terrain before the wall was added to the country estate around 1861 after the demolition of a school. A tennis court was laid out there, which fell into disuse after the Second World War. The terrain is now planted. In front of the house a transverse axis (north-south) formed by an old lime avenue with partly young replanting. The lime avenue leads along the vegetable garden over the water feature to the park section. East of the avenue a sheltered layout with mossy winding paths that have an avenue character. From the garden gazebo in the north-east corner a sight line towards the Herenweg, which is now closed off. Parallel to the Herenweg a path with one-sided avenue planting of oaks. West of the lime avenue an open layout with rhododendron beds, groups of trees and some solitaires, including a tulip tree. The paths run in curves. Along the north edge of the layout a curved oak avenue that halfway offers a vista over grassland. On the west side the wooded section is protected by a strip of young planting (1977). From the hill in the landscape layout a sight line over the water feature to the house. Along the curved line of the water feature stand some solitaires. Behind the house a recent star-shaped layout inspired by the star wood of the 18th-century geometric layout (1985); as such this reconstructed star-shaped layout is of subordinate significance for protection. The chestnuts standing in a circle around the layout were planted there around 1860.
