HOOFDGEBOUW (Eyckenstein). Het witgepleisterde pand in neoclassicistische stijl is in het begin van de 19de eeuw door M.J. Eyck van Zuylichem naar voorbeeld van de Italiaanse villa's van de architect Palladio herbouwd. Het op rechthoekige grondslag opgetrokken huis (een voorhuis en een smaller achterhuis) met donkere plint bestaat uit twee bouwlagen en een mezzanino onder een schilddak, dat bekroond wordt door een achtbenige koepel staande op een verhoogde nok. Tegen beide zijgevels staat een aanbouw van twee bouwlagen. Het midden van de symmetrisch ingedeelde zeven-assige voorgevel wordt geaccentueerd door een zuilenportiek (1809) van drie traveeën; bestaande uit vier Ionische zuilen staande op een hardstenen bordes, een kroonlijst, waarop de naam 'EYCKENSTEIN', en een driehoekige fronton met een ronde klok. Het bordes wordt aan de zijkanten afgeschermd door een balustrade, die oorspronkelijk de gevel bekroonde. De middelste travee wordt gevormd door een omlijste glazen (toegangs)deur en een T-venster op de verdieping; de overige vensterassen zijn opgebouwd uit moderne vensters op de begane grond, T-vensters op de verdieping en een tweeruiter in de mezzanino. De vensters van de buitenste twee vensterassen hebben perisiennes. De zijvleugels bestonden oorspronkelijk uit open veranda's, totdat deze in ca.1880 werden verbouwd tot een glazen serre (links) en een woonkamer met drie halfronde vensters in Venetiaanse stijl (rechts). Op de verdieping een overdekt balkon gedragen door ijzeren zuiltjes. In de rechter zijgevel een deur met halfrond bovenlicht en een indeling van T-vensters (alleen perisiennes bij de vensters van het voorhuis). In 1955 is in het verspringende gedeelte van het voor- en achterhuis een tweede toegang tot het huis gemaakt. Tegen de linker zijgevel verschillende rechthoekige aanbouwen met een invulling van T-vensters, deels met perisiennes. De achtergevel toont een onregelmatige aanblik. Centraal in de gevel van het achterhuis dubbele glazen toegangsdeuren met bovenlicht geflankeerd door een langwerpig venster. De hardstenen ornamenten ter weerszijde van de toegangsdeur zijn van elders afkomstig en later aangebracht. Op de verdieping twee grote vensters met aan weerszijden een kleiner venster. In het INTERIEUR, dat verschillende malen grondig is verbouwd, is ondermeer het stucplafond met houten rozet in het trappenhuis van belang.

Description
MAIN BUILDING (Eyckenstein). The whitewashed building in neoclassical style was rebuilt in the early 19th century by M.J. Eyck van Zuylichem following the example of the Italian villas of architect Palladio. The house, erected on a rectangular ground plan (a front house and a narrower rear house) with dark plinth, consists of two storeys and a mezzanino beneath a hipped roof, crowned by an eight-sided cupola standing on a raised ridge. Against both side facades stands a two-storey extension. The centre of the symmetrically arranged seven-bay front facade is accentuated by a columned portico (1809) of three bays; consisting of four Ionic columns standing on a hardstone platform, a cornice bearing the name 'EYCKENSTEIN', and a triangular pediment with a round clock. The platform is screened at the sides by a balustrade, which originally crowned the facade. The middle bay is formed by a framed glazed (entrance) door and a T-window on the storey; the remaining window bays are composed of modern windows on the ground floor, T-windows on the storey and a two-light window in the mezzanino. The windows of the outer two window bays have jalousies. The side wings originally consisted of open verandas until these were converted around 1880 into a glazed conservatory (left) and a living room with three half-round windows in Venetian style (right). On the storey an covered balcony supported by iron columnettes. In the right side facade a door with half-round fanlight and an arrangement of T-windows (jalousies only on the windows of the front house). In 1955 a second entrance to the house was made in the projecting section of the front and rear house. Against the left side facade various rectangular extensions with T-windows, some with jalousies. The rear facade shows an irregular appearance. Centrally in the facade of the rear house are double glazed entrance doors with fanlight flanked by an elongated window. The hardstone ornaments on either side of the entrance door are from elsewhere and were applied later. On the storey two large windows with a smaller window on either side. In the INTERIOR, which has been thoroughly remodelled several times, the stucco ceiling with wooden rosette in the stairwell is noteworthy.
