Omschrijving
HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG behorende tot de buitenplaats Groot Engelenburg. Deels in structuur en deels in detail gaaf bewaarde aanleg in landschapsstijl naar ontwerp van de tuinarchitect H. van Lunteren uit ca.1828 met behoud van 17de- en 18de-eeuwse elementen zoals de omgrachting en de hoofdas (zie Hottingerkaart uit 1783). Een groot deel van de aanleg is thans (1997) in gebruik als golfterrein, waardoor de belevingswaarde van het park is veranderd. De opzet van de aanleg wordt bepaald door een formele hoofdas (oprijlaan), die komende vanuit de dorpskern Brummen loodrecht op het huis is geprojecteerd. Langs de laan staan enkele zeer oude bruine beuken en is verder opnieuw ingeplant met eiken en dennen. Het huis ligt tezamen met de bouwhuizen op een omgracht eiland, waarvoor een rechthoekig eveneens omgracht deel van oorsprong opgedeeld in twee parterres aan weerszijden van de oprijlaan, zoals de Hottingerkaart uit 1783 al laat zien. Door tuinarchitect L. Springer zijn in 1911 de twee rechthoekige perken opnieuw ingericht: het linker tuindeel is thans betrokken bij het golfterrein met nog enkele herkenbare elementen van Springer zoals de border, een deel van het rondvormige padenverloop en het centrale punt gemarkeerd door een ornament; ook het rechter vak heeft dit markeringspunt, maar is verder opgeofferd aan een parkeerplaats en een tennisbaan. In het parkgedeelte bij het speelhuisje zijn in het begin van de 19de eeuw verschillende bijzondere bomen aangeplant zoals de mammoetboom (ca.1850) en een taxus. In het begin van de 19de eeuw is de aanleg in landschapsstijl vergraven: de veelhoekige omgrachting rondom het huis verkrijgt wordt vergroot in grillige vormen en uitgebreid met een serpentinevormige vijver waarin een klein eilandje. Vanaf de achterzijde van het huis loopt een zichtas over de waterpartij naar het achterliggende weiland, die als sierweide met rondgaande wandeling in de aanleg is opgenomen. Door de grillige vorm van het eiland is er een harmonieuze overgang gecreëerd tussen het huis met bijgebouwen en de parkaanleg. Links van de waterpartij heeft de aanleg een open karakter met beplanting in golvende lijnen en verschillende zichten over de vijver; rechts ligt het park-, wandelbos met lanen en slingerpaden. Rond het park om het huis staat een gegalvaniseerd hekwerk, dat voor de bescherming van geen belang is. Het parkbos sluit aan de westzijde aan op een met bomen omzoomde sierweide waaromheen een slingerpad (noord en west) en een laan (zuid) loopt; vanaf de laan is een dwarslaan naar de Eerbeekseweg. De rondwandeling biedt verschillende wisselende zichten over de weide met bomengroep.

Description
HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the estate Groot Engelenburg. Layout partly well-preserved in structure and partly in detail in landscape style to a design by garden architect H. van Lunteren from c.1828 with retention of 17th- and 18th-century elements such as the moat and the main axis (see Hottinger map from 1783). A large part of the layout is currently (1997) in use as a golf course, which has altered the perceptual value of the park. The layout is determined by a formal main axis (carriage drive), which extends from the village centre of Brummen perpendicularly to the house. Along the drive stand several very old brown beeches and the drive has been replanted with oaks and pines. The house together with the service buildings is situated on a moated island, for which a rectangular likewise moated section originally divided into two parterres on either side of the carriage drive, as shown by the Hottinger map from 1783. In 1911 garden architect L. Springer redesigned the two rectangular beds: the left garden section is now part of the golf course with still some recognisable elements of Springer such as the border, part of the circular path circulation and the central point marked by an ornament; the right section also has this marking point, but is otherwise sacrificed to a car park and a tennis court. In the park section near the playhouse various special trees were planted in the early 19th century such as the giant sequoia (c.1850) and a yew. In the early 19th century the layout was remodelled in landscape style: the polygonal moat around the house is enlarged into irregular forms and extended with a serpentine-shaped pond with a small island within it. From the rear of the house runs a sight line across the water feature to the pasture land behind, which is incorporated as a decorative meadow with a perimeter walk in the layout. The irregular form of the island creates a harmonious transition between the house with outbuildings and the park layout. To the left of the water feature the layout has an open character with planting in undulating lines and various views across the pond; to the right lies the park and walking wood with rides and winding paths. Around the park enclosing the house is a galvanised fence, which is of no importance for protection. The park wood connects on the west side to a decorative meadow bordered with trees around which runs a winding path (north and west) and a drive (south); from the drive a cross-path leads to Eerbeekseweg. The perimeter walk offers various changing views across the meadow with tree groupings.
