Omschrijving complexonderdeel 4
In neoclassicistische trant uitgevoerd GRAFMONUMENT op de eerste algemene begraafplaats te Zeist, gelegen in vak A15a-b. Het betreft het graf van jhr. Ernest Willem Nicolaas de Pesters, ritmeester der huzaren (1840-1878). Het graf is gesitueerd als afsluitend onderdeel van het middenpad van de formele aanleg. Links van dit graf liggen de grafkelders, rechts loopt een pad naar de achter dit graf gelegen landschappelijke aanleg.
Het graf is afgedekt met een hardstenen zerk, waarop de namen van de begravenen zijn vermeld. Aan het hoofdeinde staat een postament met een afgebroken zuil als symbool voor het afgebroken leven. Op de voorzijde van het postament is in reliëf het familiewapen aangebracht, de zuil is bewerkt met een reliëf van takken die door een strik bij elkaar gebonden zijn. Het geheel is omgeven door een smeedijzeren hekwerk en is overwoekerd door klimopstruiken.
Waardering complexonderdeel 4
Het grafmonument behorend bij de eerste algemene Zeister begraafplaats is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzonder voorbeeld van de negentiende eeuwse funaraire cultuur alsmede vanwege de ensemblewaarde binnen de aanleg van het complex.

A FUNERARY MONUMENT executed in neoclassical style on the first general cemetery of Zeist, located in plot A15a-b. It concerns the grave of jhr. Ernest Willem Nicolaas de Pesters, cavalry officer of the hussars (1840-1878). The grave is positioned as the closing component of the central path of the formal layout. To the left of this grave lie the burial vaults, to the right runs a path towards the landscaped layout situated behind this grave.
The grave is covered with a hardstone gravestone, on which the names of those buried are recorded. At the head end stands a pedestal with a broken column as a symbol for a life cut short. On the front of the pedestal is affixed in relief the family coat of arms, the column is decorated with a relief of branches bound together by a ribbon. The whole is surrounded by wrought iron railings and is overgrown with ivy shrubs.

The funerary monument belonging to the first general cemetery of Zeist is of cultural-historical value as a remarkable example of nineteenth-century funerary culture and also by virtue of its ensemble value within the layout of the complex.
