Omschrijving
Omschrijving onderdeel 2: PARKAANLEG.
Waardering
De PARKAANLEG is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- vanwege de kwaliteit van het ontwerp van bloementuin, rozentuin en park;
- als representatief voorbeeld uit het oeuvre van L.A. Springer (bloemen- en rozentuin);
- als representatief en zeer zeldzaam voorbeeld uit het oeuvre van J.A. Husley (landschapspark);
- vanwege het belang van de aanleg voor de geschiedenis van de tuin- en landschapsarchitectuur;
- als karakteristiek en functioneel onderdeel van de parkaanleg (voormalige moestuin);
- vanwege de cultuurhistorische, tuinhistorische en landschappelijk-visuele waarden;
- vanwege de hoge mate van oorspronkelijkheid.

Description
Description of component 2: PARK LAYOUT.
The park layout consists of: a. forecourt area with forecourt proper; b. rose garden and flower garden; c. landscape park; d. former kitchen garden.
Re a: the forecourt area, as to its design from the 19th century, covers approximately half of the area within the outer moat and is bounded by the Windesheimerweg, which at this point has the character of a monumental avenue. Half of the forecourt, the western part, is occupied by a small old deciduous wood copse with solitary trees along the edges; the other half, i.e. to the south of the forecourt and the rose garden, consists of a large lawn with a small irregular pond, old solitary trees and garden ornaments (see under 6B, 6C, 6D, and 6F); from the access gate (see under 4A) a short gravel-surfaced drive runs across the lawn to the forecourt; the drive has no planting. The symmetrical forecourt is framed by the two dwelling houses (see under 3A and 3B) and the ruins of the vanished house; in the middle a square lawn (new) with a large garden vase (see under 6G); further gravel surfacing in connection with the drive.
Re b: the rose garden lies to the east of the right dwelling house and, like the flower garden, was designed by L.A. Springer in neogeometric style around 1915; the symmetrical garden has a sunken central area, a lawn, which is accessed by four brick steps; yew trees, vases (see under 6F); restored in the early 1980s.
The flower garden lies to the west of the ruins and is currently in a neglected state; the layout is still reasonably recognizable; only a few yew trees, a basin and a stone bench remain (see under 6C).
Re c: over 80% of the total complex area (= approximately 28 hectares) is occupied by the landscape park, which was designed in 1789 by Husley; it is noteworthy that extensive documentation exists for the design in the form of correspondence. The park is an early layout for Overijssel and has been preserved in fairly good condition. The park has many walks with great variety: winding lanes leading along park meadows, ponds, over watercourses and through woodland plots; relief has been introduced in certain places: in the axis of the house at the end of a large meadow a high hill (formerly with a structure?) and further a sickle-shaped ridge with old beeches, from which one of the few views out of the park can be had; most views are directed inward; in the largest meadow stands a group of trees.
Re d: the former kitchen garden lies to the south of the Windesheimerweg, diagonally opposite the house site. The former gardener's house stands in the middle of this area and two service cottages also stand at the edge, all decoratively designed and with corresponding features, such as thatched roofs, multi-light windows and shutters with red-white hourglass motif. The kitchen garden is still recognizable in structure by old beech hedges and garden walls. On the Windesheimerweg the garden walls, which consist of concrete elements, have partly disappeared and fallen into decay. In the former kitchen garden there are still remnants of a small glasshouse.
Valuation
The PARK LAYOUT is of general importance:
- on account of its age;
- on account of the quality of the design of the flower garden, rose garden and park;
- as a representative example from the oeuvre of L.A. Springer (flower and rose gardens);
- as a representative and very rare example from the oeuvre of J.A. Husley (landscape park);
- on account of the importance of the layout for the history of garden and landscape architecture;
- as a characteristic and functional component of the park layout (former kitchen garden);
- on account of its cultural historical, garden historical and landscape-visual values;
- on account of the high degree of originality.
