Inleiding
Het gedenkteken voor Ernst Casimir uit 1939 staat op het open voorterrein van de Ernst Casimirkazerne, in de as van het poortgebouw; tussen gedenkteken en poortgebouw loopt een met klinkers bestraat voetpad. Ernst Casimir van Nassau (1573-1632), Stadhouder van Friesland, Groningen en Drenthe, sneuvelde tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog voor de wallen van Roermond.
Omschrijving
Het bakstenen gedenkteken met accenten in betonsteen heeft twee tegengestelde halve cirkelsegmenten als grondvorm zodat vier armen in de vorm van een x ontstaan. Aan het einde van die armen zijn bloembakken gemetseld. Op het centrale raakpunt van de x is het eigenlijke gedenkteken geplaatst: een bakstenen opbouw met inscriptie (onder) en een beeltenis van Ernst Casimir (boven), tegen de achterzijde is een vlaggenmast geplaatst. Aan de voorzijde bestaat het cirkelsegment uit een aan twee zijden oplopende met een rollaag afgedekte muur uitkomend in een sokkel met voluutvormige, kwartrond beëindigingen. Deze halve cirkelvorm sluit een perk in. Aan de achterzijde een dito bakstenen lage muur, echter niet oplopend uitgevoerd. De beeltenis toont Ernst Casimir en trois quart; deze werd vervaardigd door beeldhouwer V. Sprenkels uit Roermond; in kapitaal de tekst: "Ernst Casimir van Nassau gesneuveld nabij Roermond tijdens de Maasveldtocht 1632". De inscriptie hieronder luidt: "Ernst Casimir Kazerne geschenk van de gemeente Roermond aan de Koninklijke Landmacht 8 augustus 1939" (in kapitaal).

Introduction
The memorial for Ernst Casimir from 1939 stands on the open forecourt of the Ernst Casimir barracks, in line with the gate building; between memorial and gate building runs a footpath paved with clinker bricks. Ernst Casimir van Nassau (1573-1632), Stadhouder of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe, was killed during the Eighty Years' War before the walls of Roermond.
Description
The brick memorial with accents in concrete stone has two opposing half circle segments as ground form so that four arms in the shape of an x are created. At the end of those arms flower boxes are constructed. At the central meeting point of the x the actual memorial is placed: a brick structure with inscription (below) and a portrait of Ernst Casimir (above), against the rear side a flagpole is placed. On the front side the circle segment consists of a wall rising on two sides covered with a roll moulding ending in a base with volute-shaped, quarter-round terminations. This half-circle form encloses a bed. On the rear side a similar brick low wall, however not executed in ascending form. The portrait shows Ernst Casimir en trois quart; this was made by sculptor V. Sprenkels from Roermond; in capital letters the text: "Ernst Casimir van Nassau killed near Roermond during the Maasveldtocht 1632". The inscription below reads: "Ernst Casimir Barracks gift of the municipality of Roermond to the Royal Army 8 August 1939" (in capital letters).
