Inleiding

Description
Introduction
MANSION in the Neo-Dutch Renaissance style designed by architect S.J.H. Trooster on behalf of merchant A.P.J. Trip and completed in 1884. From 1916 to 1967 the house functioned as town hall of the municipality of Zwollekerspel, which was then abolished.
The mansion is part of the villa park on one of the bastions of the former fortress and thus stands in the protected streetscape of Zwolle within the city moat.
The interior of the house has been largely altered.
Description
The building is constructed on an approximately rectangular ground plan over a basement and two storeys under a clipped hipped roof with Maas tile covering. The facades are built above a sandstone plinth in red facing brick, with bands of calcium silicate brick and details in sandstone and plasterwork. The straight-sided windows are placed under crested gables and segmental arch voussoirings, with corner and keystone stones, diamond-headed knops and tile tableaux. The stair windows are closed off by round arches. On the corners of the facades and pavilions pilasters with Ionic capitals are applied. The verandah, bay and roof dormers are provided with volutes. Other applied sandstone decorations are palmettes and scrollwork.
In the front facade (W) a round turret of three storeys with a spire is incorporated. The third storey of the turret consists of a round arch arcade. To the left of the tower a narrow wall section, to the right three window bays. The right two window bays project under a shoulder gable with obelisks, volutes and spheres on the shoulders and a tile tableau with the date 1884. In the recessed window bay the entrance is placed. This consists of a double wooden door with diamond-headed knops, panels and pediments in the wood and small panes with decorative grilles. The door with round arch fanlight is located in a portico with a rendered frame with diamond-headed knops, volutes, Ionic capitals and a pediment.
The left part of the left side facade (N) projects under a hipped roof, which leans against a shoulder gable. Against the right part of the facade a wooden bay window has been built with a balcony above it. A double glass door provides access to the balcony. In the side facade of the pavilion a window.
The right side facade (S) is divided into three: the entrance pavilion with the service entrance, a three-part stair window and a two-part window; to the left thereof a broad facade section that projects slightly and in front of which a wooden verandah is placed, with a large composite window above it; and a narrow facade section with one window bay to the right. In the rear facade (E) the service entrance is located in a pavilion, with one window bay to the left and two to the right.
Roof dormers with decorations in sandstone are placed in the roof above the side facades.
In the house several marble fireplaces are still present.
Valuation
The mansion is of general cultural, architectural-historical and urban planning importance due to:
- the function of town hall, which it held for more than fifty years
- the Neo-Dutch Renaissance building style
- the visually defining location of the house in the villa park that replaced the bastion
