Description

COACH HOUSE WITH STABLES belonging to Huis Maarsbergen. Mid-19th-century partially rendered brick building block, situated on the approach drive, consisting of a transversely positioned coach house with stabling and living quarters and an agricultural business section built at right angles to the rear. Coach house built in eclectic style with a higher central risalit under a gabled roof with ridge perpendicular to the hipped roof of the lower section. The gabled roof is tiled with blue Dutch tiles, the hipped roof with tuiles du Nord. Characteristic of the building are several components on the facades that are emphasized by a rendered layer, such as the continuous plinth and the profiled band halfway along the left side facade. In the central risalit at ground level a double carriage entrance with a lattice motif in Maarsbergen colours yellow-red-green, flanked by six-light round-arched windows under painted mouldings with decorated voussoirs and keystones. On the first storey three six-light sash windows with mouldings. The wall surfaces of the lower sections are interrupted by brick pilasters with rendered base and capital and a round-arched window with rendered voussoirs and keystones. In the left side facade is a two-part door with fanlight and surround of Doric pilasters and cornice; above it a double hay hatch crowned by a wooden pediment. To the left of the door two six-light sash windows under a segmental arch with a diamond-shaped keystone. The lower business section, covered by an overhanging gabled roof tiled with blue curved tiles, is used as a horse stable. In the front facade is a carriage entrance flanked by two manure doors and two round windows; under the ridge a round-arched hatch. In the left side facade are four straight manure doors, alternating with four round windows in rendered square wall surfaces. In the right side facade, with small 19th-century extension, three stable doors and three round windows. In the INTERIOR are notably the fittings of the horse stable and the original pine-wood anchor beam roof truss structure in the business section. Behind the farmhouse stand a second half 19th-century four-rod HAYLOFT with thatched roof and a 20th-century wooden belfry with an early-18th-century bronze bell with inscription and border decoration.
