Inleiding

Introduction

The SHORT-GABLE FARMHOUSE, with a probable core from 1693, was built in the eighteenth century in regional building style. Until 1968 the property served as a farmhouse. After that, the box beds and the geut were converted into a kitchen. The cattle stall was converted into a living room and the threshing floor was used as a garage.

Description

The single-storey detached farmhouse is constructed of hand-made brick and has a thatched hipped roof, partly with a base of black old Dutch roof tiles. Under the roof edge a brick weather course has been laid. The western gable is the short rear gable on the street side. In this are three arched five-pane stable windows. The roof eaves line here is very low. In the long southern gable are tall threshing floor doors in a recessed wall section, a renewed composite window, a panelled door and two four-pane windows with shutters. In the long northern gable, at the height of the residential part, is a cellar window, a nine-pane window with shutter, further a clamped stable door and a renewed composite window. In the front gable, far left, a nine-pane sash window with shutters. Next to it a clamped door with fanlight with curved decorative bars. To the right of this a twelve-pane sash window with shutters and an upper-room window. Above this the brick gable is clad with wooden boards. In the middle is a window with small glazing bars. Left on the ridge is a new tall chimney laid in brick. Behind the front door is a new small hallway which gives access to the hearth, the former living kitchen. Red and black paving stones lie on the floor. A staircase on the right gives access to the upper room. The fireplace here has an oak frame with the inscription: "anno 1693". The baking oven with iron door to the right in the fireplace runs through to the former milk room behind it. A staircase leads to the cellar. This has a brick floor with herringbone pattern. A clamped door leads to the present living room. This was formerly the cattle stall. The oak timber frame is clearly visible here, but also throughout the rest of the building.

Valuation

The former eighteenth-century SHORT-GABLE FARMHOUSE with an older core from 1693 possesses building-historical value due to the phased antiquity which is legible in and on the object and is expressed, for example, in the preserved main form, in the traditional materials and constructions, notably in the oak timber frame and in the structural work. Partly for this reason, the object is significant for the history of rural architecture, while the preserved original layout provides insight into life and work within an agrarian-historical context. Both through its individual qualities, but also in connection with the equally protected nearby barn/shed from the end of the eighteenth or beginning of the nineteenth century, the object leads to remarkable historical experience values which are distinctive in a national sense and represent a matter of general interest.
