Inleiding

Introduction

The villa Anderstein was built in 1913 according to a design by architect J. Stuivinga for Mr H.A. van Beuningen. Since 1968 the building has been in use as an office. The house displays the stylistic characteristics of English country house architecture.

The villa is located at the rear of the Anderstein estate, where there are also a number of stables, a farmhouse, a carriage house and a swimming pool. The stables and garden are now in use respectively as a clubhouse and golf course. Despite alterations in its use, the house has retained its original character and maintains a valuable relationship with the surrounding area, which has likewise changed in function.

Description

The VILLA, situated at a distance from the Woudenbergseweg, is built on a rectangular ground plan and comprises one storey under a composite roof, covered with red improved Dutch tiles. The ridge runs parallel to the Woudenbergseweg. On the north side, the roof consists of two parallel, projecting gabled roofs with box gutter. The south-east side is covered by a hipped roof running round. The west facade is characterised by a gable with pitched roof, while the east facade is dominated by a gable with hipped roof. Several roof planes are broken through by various types of dormer windows. The brick facades are rendered halfway up the windows on the first storey. The windows are furnished with shutters and glazing bars. The front facade on the garden side is symmetrical in layout with a gable and pitched roof in the centre. The central section of the first storey is executed as a portico or loggia, resting on brick pillars. Behind it four garden doors have been placed. The gable is built in timber framing. In the middle is an internal balcony. Above it the bays are filled with glass, which is not original, with the exception of the oeil de boeuf in the middle. On the first storey, to the right of the portico, a three-sided bay window has been placed against the facade. To the left of the portico, the original main entrance sits in the facade under an arched awning with a window on either side. In front of it lies a walled, tiled stoop.

The gables on the left side facade have weatherboarding consisting of vertically painted green sections with white-painted grooves. The facade layout is symmetrical in design, with the exception of an extension on the left against the facade. In the centre of the facade is a door with an arched fanlight. To the right of it is a two-light window with shutters and an oval window. On the second storey is an opening glazing-bar window with a two-light window with fanlight and shutters on either side. At attic level, each gable contains a glazing-bar window.

The right side facade has a gable on the left. On the right a veranda has been added. The facade contains windows and a bay window has been placed. The rear facade steps back slightly on the left for a balcony on the veranda on the first storey. The facade is characterised by a raised central section under a hipped roof, which covers a balcony on the second storey, resting on round brick pillars. On the right, the facade has three window bays and the roof hipped section is broken through by three dormer windows.

The interior has an original layout with many original elements. Throughout the house, wooden panel wainscoting, staircases, doors and parquet floors are still present. In the hall is a cosy corner with fireplace, mirror and cabinet walls. The staircase begins in the hall and has turned balusters. On the newel post stands a wooden figure of a putto on a goose. The study has a fireplace resting on turned pillars. The fireplace in the reception room is marble. The radiator boxing is also original. The kitchen has original counters and tiled walls with tableaux, such as a vase with flowers and a cat and a dog. Two tile tableaux with 'life trees' support the fireplace. The representation consists of a column with parrots and peacocks. The tile tableaux come from elsewhere.
