Inleiding
Pakhuis bestaande uit drie aaneengesloten bouwdelen gebouwd in opdracht van R. Houwink. De beide delen met tuitgevels zijn gebouwd in de periode 1880-1885 met stijlkenmerken van de neo-hollandse renaissance. De platte aanbouw dateert uit 1911 in een verwante stijl. De pakhuizen liggen nabij het Bleekerseiland, het punt waar vroeger de Hoogeveensche Vaart en de Drentse Hoofdvaart splitsten. Ondanks het feit dat het water is gedempt en de stedebouwkundige situatie door nieuwbouw is gewijzigd kunnen deze pakhuizen vanwege vormgeving en ligging als zeer belangrijk worden beschouwd in de geschiedenis van Meppel als haven- en stapelplaats. Het hergebruik van de pakhuizen als Grafisch Museum heeft geleid tot enkele geringe wijzigingen (ondermeer t.a.v. de roedeverdeling). Maar de waarde van het pand blijft voor bescherming van belang.
Omschrijving
Pakhuizen bestaande uit drie bouwdelen; allen in baksteen opgetrokken en voorzien van geel siermetselwerk ter accentuering van de verdiepingslagen en boven de getoogde vensters. De twee linker bouwdelen, gedekt door een met pannen belegd zadeldak, hebben een symmetrische gevelopbouw met lisenen over de volle hoogte die aan bovenzijde overgaan in het opklimmend boogfries van de tuitgevel (neo-hollandse renaissance motief). De middenas van de beide delen worden geleed door getoogde toegangsdeuren en getoogde zolderluiken. Aan weerszijden van de middenas zijn getoogde ramen; deels met luiken. De uitbreiding uit 1911 heeft een vergelijkbare opbouw met bredere travee-maten. De zijgevel is voorzien van getoogde vensters; serie staafankers en geheel rechts een later ingebracht gietijzeren drie gekoppelde twaalf-ruits vensters onder een betonnen latei. De achtergevel van de drie bouwdelen is blind.

Warehouse consisting of three adjoined building sections built on commission of R. Houwink. Both sections with spout gables were built in the period 1880-1885 with stylistic features of the neo-Dutch renaissance. The flat extension dates from 1911 in a related style. The warehouses are located near the Bleekerseiland, the point where formerly the Hoogeveensche Vaart and the Drentse Hoofdvaart diverged. Warehouses consisting of three building sections; all constructed in brick and provided with yellow decorative brickwork to accentuate the storeys and above the arched windows. The two left building sections, covered by a gabled roof with tile covering, have a symmetrical facade structure with pilaster strips over the full height which at the top transition into the rising arch frieze of the spout gable (neo-Dutch renaissance motif). The central axis of both sections are articulated by arched access doors and arched hoist doors. On either side of the central axis are arched windows; partly with shutters. The 1911 extension has a comparable structure with broader bay measurements. The side facade is provided with arched windows; series of staple anchors and at the far right a later inserted cast-iron triple coupled twelve-light window under a concrete lintel. The rear facade of the three building sections is blind.

Warehouse of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban planning importance as a representative of a functional development important for Meppel as well as on account of the design and the use of materials as well as on account of the historically spatially important location.
