Omschrijving
In het oude centrum van Meppel gelegen in aanleg 17e-eeuws pand (jaartalsteen 1633) dat door de (blok)bepleistering en raamindeling uitwendig een 19e-eeuws karakter draagt; in het interieur verschillende waardevolle 17e-, 18e en 19e-eeuwse (bouw)onderdelen. Het pand lag eertijds aan de in 1952 gedempte Groteoever.
Inclusief kelder vier bouwlagen tellend gebouw op trapeziumvormige plattegrond, opgetrokken uit gepleisterde rode baksteen en gedekt door een met rode pannen belegd zadeldak tussen tuitgevels, waarvan het oostelijke dakschild plaatselijk is verhoogd; staaf- en sierankers. In de met een blokbepleistering afgewerkte westgevel drie keldervensters, drie T-ramen en een deur met houten trapopgang op de eerste verdieping en drie T- ramen op de tweede verdieping; in de eveneens met een blokbepleistering afgewerkte zuidgevel een keldervenster en een deur, twee 6-ruitsschuiframen op de eerste en een dito raam op de tweede verdieping; 12- ruitsschuifraam in de tuitgevel met hijsbalk; de vlakgepleisterde zuidgevel is, behoudens een smal T- raam, blind.
Inwendig zijn van belang de grotendeels nog uit 1633 daterende hoofdstructuur en de kapconstructie met gehakte telmerken (strepen en ovalen) en vliering; voorts onder meer: het gewelf van de oorspronkelijke stookplaats in de kelder; de gang met vloertegels van Naamse steen (zijde zuidgevel), op de eerste verdieping een 19e-eeuwse schouw met roodkleurige marmeren mantel en 18e-eeuwse witte en blauw gefigureerde tegels; op de tweede verdieping een vermoedelijk 19e-eeuwse bedstede (waaraan de deuren ontbreken) en houten lambrizering; op de zolder eveneens een bedstede en een (ton)gemak.

Description
Located in the old centre of Meppel, a 17th-century building in its original layout (datestone 1633) which by its (block) rendering and window arrangement externally bears a 19th-century character; in the interior various valuable 17th, 18th and 19th-century (structural) components. The building formerly stood on the Groteoever, which was filled in in 1952.
Inclusive of cellar a four-storey building on a trapezoidal ground plan, erected from rendered red brick and covered by a gabled roof clad with red tiles between spout gables, of which the eastern roof slope is locally raised; rod and ornamental wall anchors. In the west facade finished with block rendering three cellar windows, three T-windows and a door with wooden stair on the first floor and three T-windows on the second floor; in the likewise block-rendered south facade a cellar window and a door, two 6-pane sash windows on the first and a likewise window on the second floor; 12-pane sash window in the spout gable with hoist beam; the smooth-rendered south facade is, aside from a narrow T-window, blank.
Internally of importance are the main structure still largely dating from 1633 and the roof truss structure with carved carpenters' marks (stripes and ovals) and attic floor; furthermore among others: the vault of the original stove place in the cellar; the hallway with floor tiles of Namur stone (alongside south facade), on the first floor a 19th-century fireplace with red-coloured marble mantel and 18th-century white and blue decorated tiles; on the second floor a presumed 19th-century built-in bed (of which the doors are missing) and wooden panelling; on the attic likewise a built-in bed and a (barrel) privy.
