Omschrijving
Inleiding:
Dubbele 18de eeuwse LANDARBEIDERSWONING.

Description
Introduction:
Double 18th century AGRICULTURAL WORKER'S DWELLING. The dwellings are located on the edge of the built-up area of Hilvarenbeek and the agricultural countryside. Klein Loo forms the connecting road from the centre through the forests of Rovert to Poppel (Belgium). On the sandy field in front of the dwellings four linden trees. The boundary fence at the street consists of a beech and privet hedge. Further on the plot there are two recently replaced barns and two pigeon lofts, these do not belong to the monument.
Description
The single-storey agricultural worker's dwellings have a rectangular ground plan. They are jointly covered by one thatched hipped roof with the ridge parallel to the street, with a high eave in the front or south facade and a low eave in the side and rear facades. Above the door in the rear facade the edge of the thatched roof is raised. The facades and ground plans are mirror images of each other. Viewed from the centre of the front facade the dwellings respectively have a door with a ten-light fanlight, a sash window with shutters and a twenty-light roedenraam and a small square window with frame at the side. In the low side facades there is a stable door in the rear section with a small window next to it. The masonry consists of red hand-formed brickwork laid in Flemish bond. Broken brickwork is used in the rear facade. Front and side facades have block plasterwork. The dwellings have a two-aisle oak timber frame. The interior is virtually unchanged. At the front a large living room (herd) with chimney and a bedroom. At the back the kitchen (geut) with on one side a slightly sunken cellar and on the other side the stall for a goat. The chimney and cellar of the dwellings are against the party wall. The herd has a floor of red tiles. The chimney beam provided with simple mouldings is cleft and planed without profiling. Round timber floor joist layer. The glazing bars in the fanlight of the front door have no profile, in contrast to those of the sash window.
Valuation
The 18th-century double AGRICULTURAL WORKER'S DWELLING is of social-historical importance because the building provides insight into old living and life conditions of agricultural workers on the countryside while architectural-historical significance lies in the well-preserved external appearance and in the retained layout (ground plan) of the property. From a building-historical perspective various elements are to be designated as valuable, including the authenticity of facade finish, constructions and building materials.
The agricultural worker's dwelling acquires particular historical experiential values from its location on the boundary between the built-up area and the agricultural countryside, which is considered significant because of the original function of the dwelling.
In a recapitulating sense the object has various characteristics that can be classified within the terms of the general interest.
