Inleiding
De watertoren is in 1931 gebouwd als eerste bouwwerk van de N.V. Waterleidingmaatschappij "Noord Overijssel" naar een ontwerp van ingenieurs van de NV v/h Butzers Beton en Waterbouw en is qua vormgeving nauw verwant aan de in dezelfde periode door de Waterleiding Maatschappij Overijssel N.V. (WMO) gebouwde watertorens van Sint Jansklooster en Raalte.
Omschrijving
De 35,20 meter hoge watertoren met Art Deco-motieven heeft een rechte schacht en een gebroken, met geglazuurde pannen gedekt tentdak op rechtstandige onderste dakschilden met een in de hoeken verspringende onderrand. De toren heeft in tweeën gedeelde afgesnoten hoeken met een over de gehele lengte van de torenschacht doorlopende, uitgemetselde verticale vertanding. Bij de twee achterste hoekpartijen is het metselwerk vernieuwd met handhaving van de vormgeving. De entree in de voorgevel bestaat uit een dubbele deur onder latei. Op de begane grond zijn in de overige gevels drie stalen vensters geplaatst. Hierboven zijn alle vier torenzijden voorzien van smalle, staande vensters en een reeks van vijf vensters onder de dakrand. Op 6 augustus 1931 is de eerste steen gelegd voor de bouw van deze toren, die is voorzien van een betonnen vlakbodemreservoir met een capaciteit van 208 m3.
Waardering
De toren is een belangrijk baken voor de omgeving en als zodanig van landschappelijke waarde. Hij is tevens van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een technische en typologische ontwikkeling en van architectuur-historische waarde vanwege de specifieke vormgeving.

Description
The 35.20 metre high water tower with Art Deco motifs has a straight shaft and a broken hipped roof covered with glazed tiles on upright lower roof plates with a corner-staggered bottom edge. The tower has corners cut off and divided in two with a continuous, laid-out vertical toothing running the entire length of the tower shaft. At the two rear corner sections the brickwork has been renewed while maintaining the design. The entrance in the front facade consists of a double door under a lintel. On the ground floor three steel windows have been placed in the other facades. Above these all four tower sides are provided with narrow, upright windows and a series of five windows under the roof edge. On 6 August 1931 the foundation stone was laid for the construction of this tower, which is equipped with a concrete flat-bottomed reservoir with a capacity of 208 m3.
