Inleiding
Dit in 1907 gebouwde woonhuis heeft een heel karakteristieke, in een eenvoudige art nouveau stijl uitgevoerde "voorzetgevel" van verblendsteen, een gladde strengperssteen in heldere kleuren, die met name in het eerste decennium van de 20e eeuw veel werd gebruikt.
Omschrijving
Het twee bouwlagen tellende pand onder met pannen gedekt zadeldak heeft een gave, op de parterre drie traveeën smalle voorgevel van verblendsteen in oranje met accenten in diverse andere kleuren en een gepleisterde plint. De originele deur met bovenlicht is voorzien van een fronton, gecanneleerde pilasters, smeedijzeren art nouveau raamijzers en een gietijzeren deurgreep met brievengleuf. De twee vensters in beide bouwlagen zijn rechtgesloten onder lateien en segmentbogen met handgeschilderde tegeltableaus in de boogtrommels en zijn voorzien van geprofileerde onderdorpels met hoekblokken met diamantkop. De geveltop staat op aanzetten van zware kraagstenen en heeft een geprofileerde deklijst, een uitgemetselde, trapvormige bekroning en aanzetstukken rondom een zoldervenster. Dit venster staat onder een rondboog met handgeschilderd tegeltableau in de boogtrommel. De andere gevels van het huis zijn opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen. Een deels vernielde, door de Amsterdamse firma Bouvy vervaardigde gevelplaat van zwart glas in de voorgevel vermeldt de datum van de eerste steenlegging, 14 september 1907. Van het interieur is op de trap na niets van belang bewaard gebleven.
Waardering
Het pand is van architectuur-historische waarde vanwege de voorgevel met de voor vroeg 20e eeuwse woonhuisarchitectuur karakteristieke vormgeving en materiaalgebruik. Het pand is tevens van waarde als gaaf en beeldbepalend onderdeel van een gesloten gevelwand in de binnenstad.

This dwelling house, built in 1907, has a highly characteristic "applied facade" of stretcher-bonded brick executed in simple art nouveau style, a smooth extruded brick in bright colours, which in particular during the first decade of the 20th century was much used.

The two-storey building beneath a tile-clad gabled roof has an intact, on the ground floor three-bay narrow front facade of orange stretcher-bonded brick with accents in various other colours and a plastered plinth. The original door with fanlight is provided with a pediment, fluted pilasters, wrought-iron art nouveau window ironwork and a cast-iron door handle with letterbox opening. The two windows in both storeys are straight-headed beneath lintels and segmental arches with hand-painted tile tableaux in the arch soffits and are provided with moulded sills with corner blocks with diamond head. The gable stands on setting stones of heavy corbels and has a moulded drip moulding, an embattled, stepped crown and setting pieces around a garret window. This window stands beneath a round arch with hand-painted tile tableau in the arch soffit. The other facades of the house are constructed from machine-made brick. A partly damaged wall plaque of black glass, made by Amsterdam firm Bouvy, in the front facade records the date of the first stone-laying, 14 September 1907. With the exception of the stair, nothing of importance from the interior has been preserved.
Valuation
The building is of architectural-historical value on account of the front facade with the formal design and material usage characteristic of early 20th-century residential architecture. The building is equally of value as an intact and visually defining component of a closed facade wall in the city centre.
