Inleiding
In 1862 gebouwd WOONHUIS voor de officier van politie, aangebouwd aan gebouw 1, oorspronkelijk met een voetbruggetje naar de Hoofdgracht. Het woonhuis is gesitueerd in de meest noordwestelijk gelegen hoek van het complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord.
N.B In de 20ste eeuw kwam het gebouw in gebruik bij de bouwkundige dienst.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwd woonhuis, bestaande uit één bouwlaag onder een schilddak, gedekt met Oegstgeester pannen. De noklijn loopt evenwijdig aan de Weststraat. De houten kapconstructie, een hangende kap met enkelvoudig hangwerk, en het dakbeschot van verticale planken zijn nog aanwezig. Het muurwerk is opgetrokken in rode baksteen. De gevels worden afgesloten door een geprofileerde houten gootlijst. In de lange dakschilden (west- en oostzijde) is in het midden, juist boven de gootlijst, een dakkapel aangebracht. De houten dakkapel aan de oostzijde onder ingestoken zadeldak heeft een dubbel houten draaivenster met zesruits bovenlicht en wordt bekroond door een fronton. De dakkapel in de westzijde is eenvoudiger.
De noordelijke kopgevel was de oorspronkelijke voorgevel van het woonhuis en heeft een breedte van vijf vensterassen en is symmetrisch van opzet. De middelste as bevat de voordeur, bestaande uit een dubbele paneeldeur met bovenlicht met ijzeren levensboom daarin. De voordeur is bereikbaar via een hardstenen stoeptrede. De deuromlijsting wordt gevormd door een houten architraaf met sterk geprofileerde kroonlijst. De overige vier vensterassen bevatten een ijzeren achtruits venster in houten sponningen en kozijnen. De vensters hebben houten lekdorpels.
De oostgevel heeft vier vensterassen, waarvan er drie een achtruits venster bevatten en één (de meest noordelijk gelegen as) een eenvoudige dubbele glazen paneeldeur met bovenlicht.
De westgevel bevat twee oorspronkelijke vensterassen, waarvan er één een paneeldeur met bovenlicht bevat en de ander een achtruits venster.
De zuidgevel is het woonhuis is vastgebouwd aan de noordgevel van gebouw 1 (zie objectbeschrijving object D, objectcode NH-HELDR-268).
Het interieur is nog gedeeltelijk intact. Zo zijn ondermeer nog aanwezig: de regenkelder, op de begane grond een kamer met het oorspronkelijke stucplafond en een roodmarmeren schouw en op zolder een zogeheten 'meidenkamer' met bedstede.
Waardering
Het woonhuis van de officier van politie is van algemeen belang als historisch functioneel onderdeel van het beschreven complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord (zie complexwaardering). Daarnaast is het pand van belang uit architectuurhistorisch en constructief oogpunt als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw gebouwd woonhuis met een hangende kapconstructie. Door de ligging aan de westrand van het Rijkswerfterrein heeft het pand, samen met de gebouwen met de nrs. 1, 28, 29, 47, 52 en 60, beeldbepalende waarde voor het aanzien van de werf vanaf de westzijde.

In 1862 built DWELLING HOUSE for the police officer, built onto building 1, originally with a footbridge to the Hoofdgracht. The dwelling house is situated in the most north-westerly corner of the complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord.

Description
Dwelling house built on a rectangular ground plan, consisting of one storey under a hipped roof, covered with Oegstgeester tiles. The ridge line runs parallel to the Weststraat. The wooden roof truss structure, a hanging truss with simple collar ties, and the roof boarding of vertical planks are still present. The masonry is built in red brick. The facades are terminated by a profiled wooden cornice. In the long roof slopes (west and east side) in the middle, just above the cornice, a roof dormer has been installed. The wooden roof dormer on the east side under an inset gabled roof has a double wooden casement window with six-pane fanlight and is crowned by a pediment. The roof dormer on the west side is simpler.
The northern gable end was the original front facade of the dwelling house and has a width of five window bays and is symmetrical in layout. The middle bay contains the front door, consisting of a double panel door with fanlight with an iron tree of life therein. The front door is accessible via a hard stone step. The door frame is formed by a wooden architrave with strongly profiled cornice. The remaining four window bays contain an iron nine-pane window in wooden frames and casements. The windows have wooden drip moulds.
The east facade has four window bays, three of which contain a nine-pane window and one (the most northerly bay) a simple double glazed panel door with fanlight.
The west facade contains two original window bays, one of which contains a panel door with fanlight and the other a nine-pane window.
The south facade of the dwelling house is built onto the north facade of building 1 (see object description object D, object code NH-HELDR-268).
The interior is still partially intact. For instance, the following are still present: the rain cellar, on the ground floor a room with the original stucco ceiling and a red marble fireplace and on the attic a so-called 'maid's room' with bedstead.
Valuation
The dwelling house of the police officer is of general importance as a historically functional component of the described complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord (see complex valuation). Furthermore, the building is of importance from an architectural-historical and constructional point of view as a well-preserved example of a dwelling house built in the second half of the 19th century with a hanging roof truss structure. By its location on the western edge of the dockyard site, the building, together with the buildings numbered 1, 28, 29, 47, 52 and 60, has image-defining value for the appearance of the dockyard from the west side.
