Inleiding
Ijzeren toegangshek van de in 1830 aangelegde Algemene Begraafplaats van Middelburg. Niet meer als zodanig in gebruik.
Omschrijving
Voormalige entree van de begraafplaats, bestaande uit twee gietijzeren kolommen met tweedelige poort en zijhekken. De kolommen elk bekroond door een toren verwijzend naar het gemeentewapen. De hekstijlen voorzien van hellebaard bekroningen; hekspijlen om en om voorzien van een forse pijlpunt.
Kolommen, punten, rozetten etc. uitgevoerd in gietijzer, overigens smeedijzer. Vóór elk van de kolommen is een natuurstenen schamppaal geplaatst.
Waardering
Toegangshek van begraafplaats van cultuurhistorische waarde vanwege de lokatie en de relatie met de stad Middelburg tot uitdrukking komend in de decoraties. Als monumentaal 19e eeuws hekwerk van waarde vanwege zeldzaamheid.

Description
Former entrance to the cemetery, consisting of two cast-iron columns with two-part gate and side gates. The columns each crowned by a tower referring to the municipal coat of arms. The gate stiles provided with halberd crownings; gate spears alternately provided with a sturdy arrowhead.
Columns, points, rosettes etc. executed in cast iron, otherwise wrought iron. In front of each of the columns a natural stone bollard has been placed.
