Omschrijving

- vanwege de sober architectonische vormgeving die typerend is voor het classicisme in de 18de-eeuw;

- vanwege de uitbreiding in 1852 in neoclassicistische stijl typerend voor die periode;

- vanwege het 18de- en 19de-eeuwse stucwerk in het interieur;

- vanwege de functioneel-ruimtelijke relatie met andere onderdelen van de buitenplaats;

- vanwege de kenmerkende ligging binnen de parkaanleg in landschapsstijl.

Description

MAIN BUILDING (Vreugd en Rust). Main building erected on a rectangular ground plan, dating from the 18th century in classical style. The blocky building is two storeys high provided with a white plaster rendering with ashlar plinth and is covered by a hipped roof covered with pantiles with a combined flat apex. In 1852 the building was extended with two rectangular side wings. From this period dates also the wooden balustrade (attic) which has been applied above the austere cornice-topped facade. At present the main building is in use as a hotel-restaurant. The regularly subdivided front facade of seven bays wide is articulated by 19th-century six-pane windows and pilasters on the corners. Centrally in the facade a central risalit with entrance section consisting of a double door with semicircular fanlight set in a frame of pilasters crowned with capitals and a cornice, above it a first-floor window and a attic light. Along the entire length of the rear facade a conservatory was built in 1920 in keeping with the style of the house. Recently (circa 1990) a flight of steps with ashlar balustrade was built in front of it.

In the INTERIOR of particular note is the richly ornamented 18th-century stairwell with stucco work in rococo style. In the corridor an 18th-century stucco ceiling in rococo style and several 19th-century stucco ceilings in Empire style.

Valuation

The MAIN BUILDING (Vreugd en Rust) is of general importance:

- because of the sober architectural design which is typical of 18th-century classicism;

- because of the extension in 1852 in neoclassical style typical of that period;

- because of the 18th- and 19th-century stucco work in the interior;

- because of the functional-spatial relationship with other components of the country house;

- because of the characteristic location within the landscape-style park layout.
