Inleiding
Bakstenen vliegtuighangar in 1941-1942 gebouwd door de firma Deisel (Bochum, Dusseldorf) voor de Duitse Luftwaffe; de hangar heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond (ruim 43 x 28 meter) en een geknikt zadeldak. De tweelaags aanbouw tegen de oostzijde (achtergevel) dateert uit 1954 en valt buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Breed uitgestrekte in oorsprong militaire vliegtuighangar met hoge, brede - niet originele - schuifdeuren in de voorgevel onder een lichtstrook. Ter weerszijden van de voorgevel (=west) hoge, in baksteen gemetselde, dubbele pijlers dienend tot ondersteuning van de rail waarin de schuifdeuren kunnen bewegen. Beide zijgevels (=noord en zuid) zijn voorzien van acht zware bakstenen steunberen en geheel blind. De achtergevel is door een aanbouw uit 1954 aan het zicht onttrokken en met een lichtstrook als de voorgevel uitgevoerd. Inwendig een betonnen vloer, de zijmuren worden elk door zware steunberen geschraagd, de ruimte in de breedte overspannen door acht in gewapend beton uitgevoerde vakwerkspanten, gedragen door de steunberen; in de eerste, vierde en achtste travee is een stalen windverband aangebracht; de spanten zijn door middel van metalen stroppen met de dakconstructie verbonden, houten gordingen tussen de spanten. Tegen de achtergevel (=oost) op de verdieping een betonnen galerij op dito consoles; de galerij is aan weerszijden ontsloten door ijzeren trappen en leidt tot verschillende kleine achtergelegen vertrekken en kantoortjes.
Waardering
De Deiselhangar bezit militair-historische waarde als bouwkundig object uit de bezettingsperiode 1940-1945 en omdat het een zeldzaam type vliegtuighangar van Duitse makelij op Nederlands grondgebied is. Vanuit het oogpunt van de geschiedenis van de constructie en bouwtechniek ligt in de gaafheid van de ranke overspanning in gewapend beton door middel van acht vakwerkspanten opmerkelijk belang besloten. Door de gave staat van behoud, de betekenis als markant object van militaire bouwkunst en de toegepaste bouwtechniek belichaamt de Deiselhangar architectuurhistorisch belang, met name op het gebied van de geschiedenis van de utiliteitsbouw. De Deiselhangar levert in aard, verschijningsvorm en vanwege de situering op de vliegbasis Volkel een wezenlijk aandeel in het levend houden van de herinnering aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog; deze herinneringswaarde heeft symbolische betekenis hetgeen als een algemeen cultuurhistorisch belang valt te bestempelen.

Description
Broad-ranging originally military aircraft hangar with high, wide - not original - sash doors in the front facade under a light strip. On either side of the front facade (= west) high, brick-built, double piers serving to support the rail in which the sash doors can move. Both side facades (= north and south) are provided with eight heavy brick buttresses and entirely blank. The rear facade is obscured by an extension from 1954 and executed with a light strip like the front facade. Internally a concrete floor, the side walls are each braced by heavy buttresses, the space in width spanned by eight roof trusses executed in reinforced concrete, supported by the buttresses; in the first, fourth and eighth bay a steel wind brace is installed; the trusses are connected to the roof structure by means of metal straps, wooden beams between the trusses. Against the rear facade (= east) on the storey a concrete gallery on ditto corbels; the gallery is accessed on either side by iron stairs and leads to various small rear rooms and little offices.
Valuation
The Deisel hangar possesses military-historical value as a building object from the occupation period 1940-1945 and because it is a rare type of German-made aircraft hangar on Dutch territory. From the perspective of the history of construction and building technique, remarkable significance lies in the integrity of the slender span in reinforced concrete by means of eight roof trusses. By virtue of its good state of preservation, its significance as a striking object of military architecture and the applied building technique, the Deisel hangar embodies architectural-historical importance, particularly in the field of the history of utilitarian building.
