Inleiding
Te Mill staat direct ten oosten van de kruising Volkelseweg - Middenpeelweg de KAZEMAT B (90a) 520, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse aan de zijde van het kanaal gedeeltelijk afgegraven.
Omschrijving.
De flankerende betonkazemat staat aan de zuidelijke zijde van de wal en deed dienst als traditore kazemat, die in zuidelijke richting op het voorterrein vóór de stelling ter hoogte van de kazematten 518-519 kon vuren. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont nauwelijks gevechtsschade.
Waardering.
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. At Mill, directly east of the intersection Volkelseweg - Middenpeelweg stands CASEMATE B (90a) 520, dating from 1939-1940. The rampart has been partially excavated at this point on the canal side.
Description.
The flanking concrete casemate stands on the southern side of the rampart and served as a traverse casemate, which could fire in a southerly direction on the forward terrain in front of the position at the level of casemates 518-519. The casemate has been well preserved and displays scarcely any combat damage.
Valuation.
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history. It is of architectural and building-historical importance because of its distinctive use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the processing of reinforced concrete. It has ensemble values as an essential component of a larger whole, which is of cultural-historical importance and is important because of the high quality of the buildings and the historical-spatial relationship with roads, waterways and soil conditions.
