Omschrijving onderdeel 4: PERGOLA.
Inleiding
De pergola, oorspronkelijk behorend bij kasteel Oud Wassenaar, is tegelijk met de naastgelegen dienstwoning uit 1876-1877 gebouwd naar een ontwerp van de architect C. Muysken. De pergola ligt evenwijdig aan de Schouwweg en eindigt aan de noordzijde tegen de voorgevel van de dienstwoning. Het centrale toegangshek in de pergola geeft toegang tot een rotonde met gazon en monumentale beuk, het voorplein van het oude huis Oud Wassenaar.
Omschrijving
De symmetrische pergola telt aan weerszijden van het hek vijf traveeën. Aan de uiteinden springt de pergola één travee in en volgt, in zes traveeën, de gebogen lijn van de rotonde. De gemetselde hekpijlers zijn gedecoreerd met zandstenen kroonlijsten, sierbanden en triglyfen onder segmentboogvormige frontons. De pergola bestaat uit een laag in rode baksteen opgetrokken muurtje en gemetselde kolommen met sierbanden van gele baksteen die het houten latwerk dragen. Tussen de kolommen een opengewerkte borstwering van decoratief maaswerk in verschillende patronen. Onder en boven de borstwering een horizontale lijst van geprofileerde gele baksteen. De kolommen ondersteunen een balk waarop geprofileerde dwarsbalken en het latwerk rusten.
Waardering
De PERGOLA is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en (tuin)architectuurhistorische waarde alsook de functionele en stilistische samenhang met het kasteel Oud-Wassenaar. De situering aan de Schouwweg herinnert aan de lokatie van het oude huis Oud-Wassenaar. De vormgeving in Neo-Renaissancestijl is overeenkomstig de bouwstijl van het kasteel. De pergola is redelijk gaaf en herkenbaar in hoofdvorm, materiaalgebruik en detaillering.
De pergola vormt met de naastgelegen dienstwoning een beeldbepalend ensemble aan de Schouwweg.

Introduction
The pergola, originally belonging to Oud Wassenaar castle, was built at the same time as the adjacent service dwelling of 1876-1877 according to a design by architect C. Muysken. The pergola runs parallel to the Schouwweg and ends on the north side against the front facade of the service dwelling. Description
The symmetrical pergola has five bays on either side of the gate. At the ends the pergola steps back one bay and follows, in six bays, the curved line of the rotunda. The masonry gate pillars are decorated with sandstone cornices, decorative bands and triglyphs under segmental arch-shaped pediments. The pergola consists of a low wall built in red brick and masonry columns with decorative bands of yellow brick that support the wooden latticework. The PERGOLA is of general importance because of its cultural and (garden) architectural historical value as well as the functional and stylistic coherence with Oud-Wassenaar castle.
