Inleiding
De voormalige STOOMKATOENSPINNERIJ "Twenthe" is in 1916 ontworpen door Arend Beltman.
In het oorspronkelijke fabrieksgebouw is anno 1993 een bedrijvencentrum gevestigd, waardoor het interieur, met uitzondering van de constructie, ingrijpend gewijzigd is. Het exterieur is nog grotendeels gaaf. Aan de linkerkant (O) is een deel in stijl aan het gebouw vastgebouwd. De ingangen op de begane grond zijn deels gewijzigd of toegevoegd.
Omschrijving
Het fabrieksgebouw is over twee tot vier bouwlagen opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een plat dak en is voorzien van twee vierkante watertorens. De betonnen kolommen en liggers van de constructie vormen in de gevels vakwerk, dat deels is opgevuld met rode baksteen, maar voornamelijk met grote vensters met stalen kozijnen en roeden. Langs de dakrand is het beton geprofileerd met behulp van tandlijsten en consoles. In de voorgevel (N) risaleren het trappehuis links - geheel in baksteen en glas, m.u.v. de betonnen lateien boven de vensters - de watertoren ongeveer in het midden en een uitbouw rechts van het midden, met een voornamelijk bakstenen invulling van het vakwerk. Op betonnen liggers steekt een deel van de derde en vierde bouwlaag rechts van de watertoren over. De watertoren bestaat uit een slanke onderbouw onder een uitkragend reservoir met dubbele hoekpilasters, waartussen kleine vensters onder lateien en tandlijsten. De ingangen zijn links van de risalieten gesitueerd. De meest linkse traveeën in de voorgevel en de linker zijgevel (O) zijn geheel in baksteen opgetrokken.
In de linker zijgevel staat de tweede watertoren voor het geveldeel tussen de twee hoekrisalieten.
Deze toren is veel breder, heeft overal dezelfde vierkante doorsnede en is aan de noord- en zuidkant voorzien van grote vensters. In het fries van de toren staat aan alle kanten "Twenthe" geschreven, waarboven de toren in tandlijsten en kantelen op de hoeken eindigt. Op verschillende hoogtes in de gevel zijn dubbele (laad)deuren geplaatst. Aan de achterzijde van deze aanbouw (Z) wordt een twee bouwlagen hoge gevel geleed door drie schoorstenen. Ervoor een transformatorhuis van één bouwlaag met vijf stalen deuren in de gevel.
Waardering
Het fabrieksgebouw is van cultuur-, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang:
- als een van de weinige gave fabrieksgebouwen, die herinneren aan de bloeiende textielindustrie in Almelo en Twente
- vanwege de betonconstructie die in de gevels het vakwerk vormt
- vanwege de voor die tijd kenmerkende vormgeving

The former STEAM COTTON SPINNING MILL "Twenthe" was designed in 1916 by Arend Beltman.
In the original factory building a business centre was established in 1993, whereby the interior, with the exception of the structure, was substantially altered. The exterior remains largely intact. On the left side (E) a section has been added to the building in the same style. The entrances on the ground floor have been partly altered or added.
Description
The factory building is constructed over two to four storeys on a rectangular ground plan under a flat roof and is provided with two square water towers. The concrete columns and beams of the structure form timber-frame in the facades, which is partly filled with red brick, but predominantly with large windows with steel frames and glazing bars. Along the roof edge the concrete is profiled by means of saw-tooth mouldings and consoles. In the front facade (N) the stairwell projects on the left - entirely in brick and glass, except for the concrete lintels above the windows - the water tower approximately in the middle and an extension to the right of the middle, with predominantly brick infilling of the timber-frame. On concrete beams a section of the third and fourth storeys projects to the right of the water tower. The water tower consists of a slender base under a cantilevered reservoir with double corner pilasters, between which small windows under lintels and saw-tooth mouldings. The entrances are situated to the left of the projecting elements. The most left bays in the front facade and the left side facade (E) are entirely constructed in brick.
In the left side facade stands the second water tower in front of the facade section between the two corner projections.
This tower is much broader, has the same square cross-section throughout and is provided with large windows on the north and south sides. In the frieze of the tower "Twenthe" is written on all sides, above which the tower ends in saw-tooth mouldings and crenellations at the corners. At various heights in the facade double (loading) doors are placed. On the rear side of this extension (S) a two-storey-high facade is divided by three chimneys. In front of it a transformer house of one storey with five steel doors in the facade.
Valuation
The factory building is of cultural, architectural-historical and urban planning importance:
- as one of the few intact factory buildings that recall the flourishing textile industry in Almelo and Twente
- because of the concrete structure which forms the timber-frame in the facades
- because of the characteristic form typical of that period
- because of the prominent location diagonally opposite the NS station
- because of the integrity of the structure and exterior
