Inleiding
Voormalig rooms-katholiek ZIEKENHUIS, "St. Elisabeth" met ZIEKENHUISKAPEL en RUSTHUIS "Canisius" uit 1926-1928 in een sobere traditionalistische baksteenarchitectuur van de architecten Th.J. van Elsberg en J. Stuyt. De drie oorspronkelijk vrijstaande gebouwen zijn door na-oorlogse uitbreidingen in dezelfde stijl aan de achterzijde samengevoegd tot één groot bouwvolume. In de voorgevel aan de Hofkampstraat (ZW) zijn de afzonderlijke gebouwen nog goed te herkennen. Links van de centrale ziekenhuiskapel met lage zijkapelletjes staat het ziekenhuis en rechts het rusthuis. Het ziekenhuis is met behoud van de uitwendige karakteristieken verbouwd tot wooneenheden, de kapel en het rusthuis bieden nu onderdak aan de muziekschool.
Omschrijving Groot samengesteld bouwvolume van twee bouwlagen onder met leien gedekte schilddaken (Maasdekking). De gevels zijn opgetrokken in rode baksteen met in blokken gemetselde hoeklisenen. Rond het gebouw een breed gepleisterd fries onder de overstekende gootlijst op klampen. In het hele gebouw recht gesloten vierruits vensters met gedeeld bovenlicht onder strekken. Het ziekenhuisgebouw heeft een lange vleugel evenwijdig aan de Hofkampstraat (ZW) met twee paviljoens en aan de achterzijde een aangebouwde L-vormige vleugel. De oorspronkelijke hoofdingang van het ziekenhuis bevindt zich in een door de gootlijst heen stekend risaliet in de voorgevel (ZW).
De lijst van het ingangsportiek is opgebouwd uit pilasters en een fries onder een fronton met geprofileerde rondboog. Op het fries staat "St. Elisabeth" en op het tympaan AD MCMXXVIII. De dubbele paneeldeur heeft een stervormige roedenverdeling in de bovenlichten. In de linker zijgevel (W) de oorspronkelijke ingang van de polikliniek in een portiek met rondboog van zandstenen blokken. De dubbele deur heeft een halfrond bovenlicht met radiale roedenverdeling. Boven de ingang een gevelsteen met het opschrift "Polikliniek". De vele dakkapellen op het gebouw hebben schilddakjes met pironnen op de nok. De voormalige ziekenhuiskapel is herkenbaar aan de afgesnoten hoeken en de zijkapelletjes onder tentdakjes. De oorspronkelijke spitsboogvensters in de gevels zijn vervangen door vensters met kruiskozijnen en roedenverdeling. Het gebouw van het rusthuis rechts van de kapel heeft een symmetrische voorgevel met hoekrisalieten van twee vensterassen. Tussen de hoekrisalieten voor de terugliggende gevel van de verdieping een balkon met gemetselde borstwering.

Description
Large composite building volume of two storeys under hipped roofs covered with slate (Maasdecking). The facades are constructed in red brick with corner lisenes laid in blocks. Around the building a wide plastered frieze under the projecting gutter line on corbels. Throughout the building are straight-shuttered four-paned windows with divided fanlight under transoms. The hospital building has a long wing parallel to the Hofkampstraat (SW) with two pavilions and at the rear an attached L-shaped wing. The original main entrance of the hospital is located in a risalit projecting through the gutter line in the front facade (SW).
The frame of the entrance portico is built up from pilasters and a frieze under a pediment with a moulded semicircular arch. On the frieze stands "St. Elisabeth" and on the tympanum AD MCMXXVIII. The double panel door has a star-shaped glazing bar pattern in the fanlights. In the left side facade (W) the original entrance of the outpatient clinic in a portico with a semicircular arch of sandstone blocks. The double door has a semicircular fanlight with radial glazing bars. Above the entrance a facade stone with the inscription "Polikliniek". The numerous dormers on the building have hipped rooflets with roof finials on the ridge. The former hospital chapel is recognisable by the chamfered corners and the side chapels under tent roofs. The original pointed arch windows in the facades have been replaced by windows with cross windows and glazing bars. The rest home building to the right of the chapel has a symmetrical front facade with corner risalits of two window axes. Between the corner risalits on the recessed facade of the upper storey a balcony with masoned parapet.
