Inleiding
Ouderwoning gebouwd in 1924 in een koloniale stijl door aannemer Klaas Smilde in opdracht van boer Schiphorst die op de Koloniale Tentoonstelling van Parijs (1924) sterk onder de indruk was van het Chinees Paviljoen. De achterzijde van het huis is gebouwd in een typische interbellum stijl.
Omschrijving
Ouderwoning op onregelmatig grondplan en verdeeld in een frontgebouw en een achterwoning. Het frontgebouw is in de vorm van een Chinees Paviljoen (veelhoek) en heeft een basis van bassaltblokken en is verder bekleed met gepotdekselde bruine houten delen met op de hoeken rode chinese decoratie-elementen. Vensters met luiken (kleurstelling: geel, zwart, rood, oranje en wit). Ruim overstek (doorhangend) met goot op klossen en decoratief bewerkt boeideel, inzwenkende kap met leitegels. Verdieping met vergelijkbare gevelbekleding en kleinere ramen (zonder luiken). Ook dit deel heeft een inzwenkende kap met leitegels. De nok wordt bekroond met uitstekende met lood beklede decoratieve elementen. De achterzijde is in baksteen opgetrokken huis met mansardekap gedekt met Tuile du Nord; dakkapel met lessenaardak, goot op klossen. In de zijgevel een driedelig vensters met twee stijlen en een horizontale roedeverdeling in het bovenlicht. Aan achterzijde een platte aanbouw.
INTERIEUR: Het interieur bevat Art Deco elementen zoals reliefs in de hal, de deuromlijstingen en de lambrisering van de woonkamer waarop beschilderingen (spatwerk) met onder meer diermotieven. Boven de haard een tegeltableau met opschrift 'Zomer Weelde'.
Motivering
Ouderwoning van cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de ontwikkeling en betekenis van Haakswold alsmede vanwege de bijzondere vormgeving, het materiaalgebruik en de ligging in een waardevol dorpsgezicht. Feitelijk een unieke rariteit in een gave staat.

The front building is in the form of a Chinese Pavilion (polygon) and has a base of basalt blocks and is further clad with lead-covered brown wooden sections with red Chinese decorative elements on the corners. Windows with shutters (colour scheme: yellow, black, red, orange and white). Generous overhang (sloping) with gutter on brackets and decoratively worked fascia board, inswept roof with slate tiles. Upper storey with similar facade cladding and smaller windows (without shutters). This section also has an inswept roof with slate tiles. The ridge is crowned with projecting lead-covered decorative elements. The rear is constructed in brick with a mansard roof covered with Tuile du Nord; roof dormer with lean-to roof, gutter on brackets. In the side gable a three-part window with two mullions and a horizontal glazing bar arrangement in the fanlight. On the rear side a flat extension.
