The register's description

Inleiding

Uniek.

Introduction

Built around 1865 as a hay barn on commission of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. In that year the Maatschappij had designed and built a farm with such a barn on either side of the main shed. The farm at that time was set up as a model farm and was characteristic of the shift towards larger-scale farm operations. Around 1910 the farm was destroyed by fire and the present farm came into being; the hay barn has been preserved.

Description

A hexagonal wooden hay barn on a brick foundation and covered by a hexagonal thatched tent roof with a scalloped wind vane underneath and worked-out plinths of the rafters. The structure is determined by six wooden corner posts with bracing at the top with thinner posts in between, all of which are interconnected by horizontal beams and some wind bracing. On the outside clad with mainly vertical wooden elements.

Valuation

Hay barn of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning importance due to the agricultural development within the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid, the typology, the design and material use as well as due to its location in a valuable area. Unique.
