Inleiding Gebouwd in 1903 als Opzichterswoning van Rijkswaterstaat in de stijl van de Art Nouveau. De dienstwoning onderscheidt zich van de overige dienstwoningen langs de Drentse Hoofdvaart door een rijkere vormgeving hetgeen gerelateerd mag worden aan de hogere positie van de bewoner.
Omschrijving
Dienstwoning gebaseerd op rechthoekig grondplan met een smallere aanbouw aan de achterzijde en een serre aan de voorzijde. Het geheel wordt gedekt door een afgeknot schilddak belegd met kruispannen; drie schoorstenen. Gevelopbouw met bakstenen plint, geglazuurde afzaten, opgaand metselwerk met daarin smeedijzeren sierankers een gootlijst op licht uitkragend metselwerk en voorzien van klossen en decoratieve windveer. De vensters hebben geglazuurde onderdorpels en zijn geplaatst onder lateien en rode bakstenen hanekammen. Oostgevel met hardstenen stoep naar de portiek waarin een paneeldeur met snijwerk, sierhekjes en bovenlicht. Aan weerkanten van de portiek een T-venster. De noordgevel heeft links een houten serre op bakstenen onderbouw voorzien van een inzwenkende zinken kap. Rechts een gekoppeld venster. Verdieping met twee getoogde T-vensters en aan de buitenkanten de opschriften ANNO en 1903. Opvallend is het overstek met de bewerkte windveren en de zware opengewerkte klossen; op de knikken zijn makelaars geplaatst. De westgevel bevat drie T-vensters. De zuidgevel heeft aan de linker zijde een T-venster onder latei; daarnaast begint de lagere uitbouw eveneens met een afgeplat schilddak. In deze uitbouw onder meer twee hooggeplaatste rechtgesloten vensters, een deur met bovenlicht en een T-venster bij de keuken.
INTERIEUR: van belang is de gang voorzien van gemarmerde lambrisering, gepleisterde wanden en plafonds, de paneeldeuren (voornamelijk origineel hang- en sluitwerk) met omlijstingen; de steektrap met bewerkte trappaal, leuning en hekwerk. Daarnaast zijn de twee kamers van belang waarin onder meer zwart marmeren schouwen, het stucwerk plafond met zware sierprofielen en bloemmotieven alsmede de schuifdeuren (glas-in-lood) tussen de kamers.
Waardering
Dienstwoning van cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de infrastructurele ontwikkeling van de Drentse Hoofdvaart, vanwege de vormgeving en het materiaalgebruik alsmede vanwege de ruimtelijk-historische ontwikkeling van Dieversluis. Hoofdelement van het complex en betrekkelijk gaaf.

Built in 1903 as an Inspector's House for the Dutch State Water Board in the style of Art Nouveau. The service dwelling is distinguished from the other service dwellings along the Drentse Hoofdvaart by a richer design which may be related to the higher position of the inhabitant.

Service dwelling based on a rectangular ground plan with a narrower extension on the rear side and a conservatory on the front side. The whole is covered by a hipped roof clad with interlocking tiles; three chimneys. Facade construction with brick plinth, glazed courses, wall masonry with therein wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors, a drip moulding on slightly projecting masonry and furnished with corbels and decorative barge boards. The windows have glazed sills and are placed under lintels and red brick corbels. East facade with stone step leading to the porch in which a panel door with carving, ornamental railings and fanlight. On either side of the porch a T-window. The north facade has on the left a wooden conservatory on brick foundation provided with a hinged zinc roof. On the right a coupled window. Upper storey with two arched T-windows and on the outer sides the inscriptions ANNO and 1903. Notable is the overhang with the worked barge boards and the heavy carved corbels; on the curves are placed corner braces. The west facade contains three T-windows. The south facade has on the left side a T-window under lintel; next to it begins the lower extension also with a hipped roof. In this extension among other things two high-placed straight-sided windows, a door with fanlight and a T-window at the kitchen.
INTERIOR: of significance is the hallway furnished with marble wainscot, plastered walls and ceilings, the panel doors (mainly original hinges and fastenings) with surrounds; the flight of stairs with worked newel post, handrail and railwork. Furthermore the two rooms are of significance in which among other things black marble fireplaces, the stucco ceiling with heavy decorative mouldings and floral motifs as well as the sliding doors (leaded glass) between the rooms.
Valuation
Service dwelling of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-development significance because of the infrastructural development of the Drentse Hoofdvaart, because of the design and the use of materials as well as because of the spatial-historical development of Dieversluis. Main element of the complex and relatively intact.
