Restanten van een kalkovencomplex, gesticht in 1925 als schelpkalkbranderij en in dat jaar omvattende twee schelpkalkovens en een leschhuis. Sedertdien heeft uitbreiding plaats gevonden met een transporteur, een derde oven en een schelpenbreker. De derde oven en het leschhuis zijn in 1959/60 echter afgebroken, zodat thans nog de twee oudste identieke ovens resteren en het geraamte van de vermoedelijk eveneens eerste helft 20e-eeuwse transporteur.
Twee terzijde van de Rijksweg Meppel-Assen en de Drentse Hoofdvaart -welke laatste van belang was voor het transport van turf, schelpen en schelpkalk e.d.- gelegen flesvormige kalkovens van het sedert 1860 door de Alkmaarse koopman W.F. Stoel verbeterde schachtoven-type. De te halver hoogte taps toelopende schacht van de ovens is opgetrokken uit in kruisverband gemetselde zachtrode baksteen en heeft enkele lichtgetoogde lucht-, laad- en los- en kijkgaten; de slanke cilindrische schoorsteen is opgetrokken uit helderrode strengperssteen, heeft klimijzers en ijzeren banden; de top wordt benadrukt door een even uitgemetselde rand. Tussen beide ovens in staat nog het geraamte van een ijzeren transporteur.
Mooi aan de Drentse Hoofdvaart gelegen restanten van het schelpkalkovencomplex bij Dieverbrug, gesticht in 1925 en thans nog bestaande uit twee ovens en het geraamte van een eerste helft 20e-eeuwse transporteur, van cultuurhistorische en industrieel-archeologisch belang monument vanwege:
-de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse schelpkalkbranderij in het algemeen en die van de provincie Drenthe in het bijzonder;de betekenis van het complex voor de 20e-eeuwse economie van Drenthe en de herinnering aan deze in de 20e eeuw aldaar bloeiende bedrijfstak;
-het feit dat (restanten van) schelpkalkbranderijen in Drenthe, maar ook in Nederland inmiddels zeer zeldzaam zijn geworden;
-vanwege het type. namelijk een verbeterde schachtoven type naar model van W.F. Stoel uit 1860 met een relatief kleine middellijn en een grote hoogte;
-vanwege de historische belangrijke ligging aan een waterweg en een interlokale weg.

Description
Remains of a lime kiln complex, established in 1925 as a shell lime kiln works and in that year comprising two shell lime kilns and a cooling house. Since then expansion has taken place with a conveyor, a third kiln and a shell crusher. The third kiln and the cooling house were however demolished in 1959/60, so that at present only the two oldest identical kilns remain and the framework of the presumably likewise first half 20th-century conveyor.
Two bottle-shaped lime kilns situated on either side of the State Road Meppel-Assen and the Drentse Hoofdvaart - the latter of importance for the transport of peat, shells and shell lime etc. - of the shaft kiln type improved since 1860 by the Alkmaar merchant W.F. Stoel. The shaft of the kilns, tapering halfway up, is built up of hard-red bricks laid in cross-bond and has several lightly arched air, loading and unloading and sight holes; the slender cylindrical chimney is built up of bright-red wirecut bricks, has climbing irons and iron bands; the top is emphasised by an equally built-up edge. Between both kilns stands the framework of an iron conveyor.
Fine remains of the shell lime kiln complex situated at the Drentse Hoofdvaart at Dieverbrug, established in 1925 and at present still consisting of two kilns and the framework of a first half 20th-century conveyor, a monument of cultural-historical and industrial-archaeological importance because of:
-the history of Dutch shell lime kiln works in general and that of the province of Drenthe in particular; the significance of the complex for the 20th-century economy of Drenthe and the memory of this business activity flourishing there in the 20th century;
-the fact that (remains of) shell lime kiln works in Drenthe, but also in the Netherlands have meanwhile become very rare;
-because of the type, namely an improved shaft kiln type to the model of W.F. Stoel from 1860 with a relatively small diameter and great height;
-because of the historically important location on a waterway and an interlocal road.
