Inleiding
Herenhuis in 1882 gebouwd in Neo-Classicistische trant. Het direkt aan de Hoofdstraat gelegen pand is gebouwd voor burgemeester L.W. Ebbinge naar ontwerp van architect H.E. Hoegsma. Aan de zuid- en achterzijde een ruime tuin met aan de straatzijde een monumentale beuk en smeedijzeren hekwerk. Het pand is onderdeel van de karakteristieke eind 19e eeuwse en begin 20e eeuwse lintbebouwing aan de voormalige Hoogeveensche Vaart in het centrum van Hoogeveen. De bescherming richt zich op het exterieur.
Omschrijving
In baksteen opgetrokken herenhuis bestaande uit een deel van twee bouwlagen aan de voorzijde (W) onder schilddak met twee gemetselde schoorstenen met afdekplaten en aan de achterzijde een deel van (O) één bouwlaag onder afgeknot schilddak; de dakschilden zijn gedekt met platte Friese en Hollandse pannen.
Symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel met gemetselde plint en brede geprofileerde verkropte daklijst. Middenpartij met entree, erboven een houten balkon met smeedijzeren balustrade op consoles en dubbele balkondeuren onder bovenlicht. De dubbele paneeldeur onder bovenlicht in een getoogde portiek met hardstenen stoep. Ter weerszijden van de middenpartij en op de gevelhoeken gemetselde pilasters met blokaanduiding; op beide bouwlagen vier T-vensters onder iets getoogde strek met hardstenen lekdorpels.
In het lage deel van de noordelijke zijgevel (deels vernieuwd) een tweede entree onder bovenlicht. De zuidgevel met drie vensters als omschreven; voor het lage deel een vijfzijdige houten serre op bakstenen basis met decoratieve daklijst en vensterstrook boven grote vensterpartijen.
Waardering
Herenhuis van architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de Neo-Classicistische bouwtrant en het zorgvuldig vormgegeven ontwerp. In relatie met de omringende bebouwing van stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging in het bijzondere gebied langs de voormalige Hoogeveensche Vaart.

Mansion built in 1882 in Neo-Classical style. The building, situated directly on the Hoofdstraat, was built for mayor L.W. Ebbinge after a design by architect H.E. Hoegsma. On the south and rear sides a spacious garden with a monumental beech tree on the street side and wrought iron fencing. The building is part of the characteristic late 19th and early 20th century linear development along the former Hoogeveensche Vaart in the centre of Hoogeveen. The protection focuses on the exterior.
Description
Mansion erected in brick consisting of a section of two storeys at the front (W) under a hipped roof with two masonry chimneys with capping plates and at the rear a section of (E) one storey under a truncated hipped roof; the roof tiles are covered with flat Frisian and Dutch pantiles.
Symmetrically arranged front facade with masonry plinth and broad moulded corbelled cornice. Central section with entrance, above which a wooden balcony with wrought iron balustrade on consoles and double balcony doors under fanlight. The double panel door under fanlight in an arched porch with hardstone stoep. On either side of the central section and on the facade corners masonry pilasters with ashlar indication; on both storeys four T-windows under slightly arched lintel with hardstone lintels.
In the low section of the northern side facade (partly renewed) a second entrance under fanlight. The south facade with three windows as described; in front of the low section a five-sided wooden conservatory on masonry base with decorative cornice and window strip above large window sections.
Valuation
Mansion of architectural-historical significance because of the Neo-Classical building style and the carefully designed scheme. In relation to the surrounding development of urban-planning significance because of the prominent location in the special area along the former Hoogeveensche Vaart.
