Inleiding
Met elementen van Neo-Gotiek in 1883 in opdracht van de Franciscanessen naar een ontwerp van architect B. von Fisenne uit Meerssen gebouwd KLOOSTER. De kloosterkapel werd in 1886 gebouwd en de noordvleugel in 1890.
Het klooster is gesitueerd aan de Oosterweg. De gebouwen op het voorterrein dateren van recentere datum en zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving:
Het klooster heeft een in lengte- en dwarsrichting geplaatste L-vormige plattegrond telt twee, deels drie bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met schilddaken en zadeldaken met leien en pannen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is mergel.
Het oudste kloostergedeelte uit 1883 telt drie bouwlagen. Rechthoekige houten vensters, deels met glas-in-lood bovenlichten. Waterlijsten in hardsteen. Houten gootconsoles. Topgevelachtige dakkapellen met zadeldaken. In de achtergevel een uitbouw met frontgevel uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin een beeld van Sint Franciscus onder een baldakijn. In deze uitbouw een entree van recentere datum.
De voormalige kloosterkapel dateert uit 1886, telt een bouwlaag en wordt afgedekt met een schilddak bekroond met een klokkentorentje met naaldspits. Spitsboogvormige glas-in-lood vensters met mergeltracering. Entree in de linkerzijgevel. Kleine dakkapellen met leien dakjes en zinken nokpionnen. Smeedijzeren muurankers.
De noordvleugel van het vml. kloostergedeelte dateert uit 1890 en telt twee bouwlagen en een souterrainverdieping. Waterlijsten. Houten gootconsoles. Dakkapellen.
Het INTERIEUR van klooster en kloosterkapel is van recentere datum.
Waardering:
Het voormalig klooster van de Franciscanessen is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van geestelijke ontwikkeling, tevens is het klooster een voorbeeld van een zgn. "Kulturkampf"-klooster. Het voormalig klooster bezit architectuurhistorische waarden wegens het bijzondere belang voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, wegens de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en het gebruik van mergel als bouwmateriaal. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het voormalig klooster aan de situering en daarmee van betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van Valkenburg aan de Geul. Het voormalig klooster is tenslotte van algemeen belang op grond van de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de architectuurhistorische zeldzaamheid.

The north wing of the former convent section dates from 1890 and comprises two storeys and a basement storey. Drip mouldings. Wooden gutter brackets. Roof dormers.
The INTERIOR of convent and convent chapel is of more recent date.
