Inleiding
In een traditionele bouwtrant in 1922 naar een ontwerp van de afdeling Openbare Werken te Heerlen gebouwd WATERSTATION.
Op het terrein waar het waterstation is gesitueerd bevinden zich tevens een dienstwoning en drie pompgebouwtjes.
Omschrijving
Het waterstation heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige L-vormige plattegrond, telt een deels twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een plat dak.
Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is Kunradersteen en beton.
Rechthoekige en rondboogvormige stalen vensters met roedeverdeling.
Vrijstaand waterstation. Het souterrain is uitgevoerd in beton en voorzien van een cementering. De optrek in Kunradersteen.
Het rechter gedeelte telt een bouwlaag met op het platte dak een smeedijzeren hekwerk. Het middendeel telt twee bouwlagen. In de eerste bouwlaag een rechthoekige houten deur, en in de tweede bouwlaag in de frontgevel twee rondboogvormige stalen vensters met hardstenen dorpelstenen. Het linkergedeelte telt eveneens twee bouwlagen met in de eerste en de tweede bouwlaag een rechthoekig stalen venster met roedeverdeling. Het linkergedeelte heeft een iets lager dak. In de tweede bouwlaag tevens een portiek met de entree van de machinistenkamer. Portiek met balustrade in Kunradersteen en dakoverstek deels rustend op een betonnen kolom. Portiekvloer met zwarte en gele plavuizen. Rechthoekige houten paneeldeur.
In de linkerzijgevel een rechthoekig stalen venster.
In de achtergevel twee rechthoekige en twee rondboogvormige stalen vensters.
Van het INTERIEUR is van belang de voormalige machinistenkamer met houten lambrizering en een houten haardomlijsting.
Waardering
Het waterstation is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. Het waterstation is van architectuurhistorische waarde wegens de toepassing van Kunradersteen als bouwmateriaal. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het gebouw aan de situering in een geaccidenteerd terrein in het buitengebied van de gemeente Voerendaal. Het waterstation is tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en een deel van het interieur; in relatie met de visuele gaafheid van de landschappelijke omgeving en wegens de typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid.
